I'm using a Topcon Topsurv 7 data collector and export my raw data with the SurvCE/RW5. option. Then I convert that to a .dat input file using the Microsurvey Star Carlson conversion tool which gets me a file that is somewhat friendly to edit. My question is for anyone using Topsurv 7: is this your method of choice or have you found an easier more seamless routine. Topcon seems to me to have compatibility issues when playing with Microsurvey. And...for any future equipment purchases, is there a TS/data collector setup that may be friendlier with Starnet?

Microsurvey FieldGenius data collection will run your Topcon and convert to StarNet nicely. The converters for Trimble Access work well. Spectra Precision Survey Pro (fka TDS) converts well. These are the converters I can vouch for.

You might try other export options, TopSurv has several raw data export options.

During the trial period I ran through most of them to figure out the one that works for me. My current troubles are making me second guess my decision. Before it worked like a charm and now its a hassle.

I'm putting some thought into getting the Field Genius.
