Trying to install SurveyPro v4.11.2 onto a Ranger 3.
The Ranger3 has SurveyPro 5.1.1 installed and running but that version is incompatible w/ our workflow. Steps taken so far:

  • Downloaded V4.11.2 from Specra into the PC.
  • Dragged/dropped the *.exe file to the Ranger.
  • Tapped on the *.exe file and the little Windows circle turns, then nothing.
  • (IF press the enter key on keypad, a message does come up "...not a valid Pocket PC application")

Hints? Are the installs to a mobile device via the laptop?

-L

We use to install upgrades back in the "TDS" days relatively easy. Since Trimble changed it to "Spectra", things got a lot more complicated.

I'm sorry I can't be any help, but you might contact them concerning a "downgrade" from a 5.x to a 4.x...I'm betting that has something to do with it. You could always "uninstall" the existing program first, then try an install...at your own risk, of course.

From what I remember, the downloaded *.exe file is run on the PC, not the Ranger. The PC will prompt you to connect the Ranger, and finish the install.

5.1

I was thinking of upgrading to 5.1 from 4.11. What are your issues with 5.1?

Yes, you upgrade from the PC. I've downgraded from 5.1 to 4.11 on two collectors with no issues; just make sure you backup before you do it.

5.1

install fr. the laptop worked fine. imported *.job files just like the old days. Field test tomorrow.
Mike-
My issue w. v5.1 is revised format of raw data file. the new format is *.survey files. Raw data is displayed as html code. sometimes I need to edit/re-process the raw data and it;s sooo much easier as a *.txt format.

We use TDS foresight to pre-calc and process linework and v5.1 would not import *.job files. (Its supposed to!)
A major rework of the office procedures is not what I need now. Couldn't see what the improvement w/ v5.1 was. It was impediment only.

Thanks, that is the concern I have. Like you, I edit raw data as txt files.
