I bought a TDS Ranger from a guy who only used the bluetooth connection, but it's got the internal radio and antenna for use with robotic instruments, so before I buy a robotic instrument I want to make sure that the radio actually works and everything. I've got no way to test it though, the robotic module is activated on survey pro. How would I know if the radio is good or not? Would I have to have a robotic instrument to know if the radio works?

You might try going to your Trimble/Spectra Precision equipment dealer and try syncing it with a demo robotic station.
