Apparently when I last updated Adobe Acrobat it pulled a nasty trick on me.?ÿ Now, my dwg files appear to be saved as a PDF, but, when I click on it, it will not open as it is an improper file type.?ÿ Thus, I have no backup to go to in an emergency.

Surely, some of you have encountered this problem and know the fourteen steps required to change so the backup appears as a bak file every time.

Morning holy cow

Never heard that before.

Could it be that the dwg file type is now associated with Adobe instead of your CAD program.

You probably donƒ??t see the actual file extension in your windows explorer, only the icon of the program associated with the file type? (I donƒ??t like that setting, you can change it in explorer so you what comes after the dot)

If so they will look as pdf files (pdf icon) in your explorer but it still are dwg files.

Double clicking will launch adobe, but when browsing from your CAD with File open should open that file because it stil is a dwg file with a wrong icon.

You can reset the file type association in Windows explorer, Iƒ??m sure you must be able to figure that out with your best friend: Google!

I might be totally wrong on this, but thatƒ??s my first guess ????

Have a great Sunday!

Try right clicking the file and selecting "open with"?ÿ and choose the correct program. when you do there will be a check box to always use that program to open that type of file.?ÿ

In the file window go to View then options, uncheck hide known file types.

Then you can see what the file type is. If still dwg then start AutoCAD and Openƒ??

Usually when you open with there is a more options link.

Can you open a file folder with a CADD drawing in it,

right click on the dwg file,

select properties,

find an area that says "Open with:" followed by a program name?

That area should give you an option to change to a different program for opening the file.

Here is what happens when I right click on what is the listed bak file.?ÿ It offers "open with".?ÿ The only two options are Acrobat or Internet Explorer.?ÿ If I choose Internet Explorer, it asks if I want to Open or if I want to Save.?ÿ When I pick Open a window pops open for a fraction of a second and disappears.

At least, by using Internet Explorer, the filename now ends in bak.?ÿ The icon is still not the standard icon I am familiar with.

I can open the original file but I cannot open the bak version to even change the ending to dwg as in the past.
