I considered my Samsung Gusty to be a badge of honor when I was teaching. Kids all had Apple-this and Samsung-that; often asked to see the Gusty for a history lesson. "Wow," they'd say. "This still works?"

Alas, our 40-something kids shamed my wife and me into upgrading. Did the cheapest thing we could; buy HTC phones outright and prepaid plan with Verizon. No contract, no fuss.

The things we do to please our children.

It is fully functional and then a bunch more.

Brosef,
I'd be interested in a GX possibly, if you want to post it anyway. Others here might also be interested.

The problem with just walking away is that I already know the programming language and my brain is permanently stuck in RPN now. (Not too mention it would take years to reprogram a new calculator with what I have in my hp....... Conversion menus, azimuth to bearing to acad angles, a complete cogo program, curve solvers etcetera) the 33s is garbage, the 35 is really only for test taking, and the 50's would need classroom time to get up to speed on how it works.

There is. Droid 48 is great. I "hacked" an old smi card and was able to load the file into the rom slots. SMI on my phone! Even get the old triangle programs on the side. The only problem is no inlay card for the keys. I know 90% of them so it doesn't bother me.

That would make an excellent YouTube video......
It would certainly be worth a visit to your area to see it done.

I made a quick video to show that it can be done. It does not connect to an instrument. It is an older version, no bluetooth in 1992 and no serial port on the phone, but it does work. You can enter your info manually and get what you need. Please don't ask me for the files.

Just shows that whoever owns the rights to SMI (Eagle Point?) could package something up with next to no development cost.

There is another member that was researching and hoping to rewrite the program into droid code

This would probably be something that would interest him

I believe that having my trusty HP48GX filled with one for more of the SMI v7 would make my life easier............

I tossed my hp48 in the dust bin and replaced it with an hp35, but having bit of trouble figuring out the basics. Quick start guide is a bit lame. Can anyone give me a quick run down on basic survey applications? Adding subtracting DMS, ect.. Need to head to field for day but hope to get into it this evening. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks. Willy out.

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

That's a great app, isn't it? The ability to run tens of thousands of programs is amazing... I use a +15-yr old 41-CX every day and have a NIB at home just in case, I used to joke that I was going to retire when the NIB wore out, but I can see that I probably will never use it. I think I will have it cremated with me...

I'm have a 48 emulator on my iphone 4s, but the freakin screen is so small and fat sausage fingers can't hit the right button half the time. I don't want a bigger phone and I just want to be able to do the basics like adding and subtracting DMS without having to write a simple program to convert back and forth between decimal and DMS blah, blah. I'm not even sure how to program the blasted thing anyway! Not like it takes a Cogo card. Guess I'll be using the calculator in Access on my TSC3 for the time being.

I have finally forced myself completely to the 32 and it paid off on my last test. My 11C finger memory is starting to fade...

I'm pretty sure that a HP41-CX would have to be much older than 15 years. 25 maybe. Could be 35.

Only took me a year to give up on the 48. I may be slow, but I'm good.
