Hi, Does anyone know how similar to AutoCAD Magnet Office is. I have used it a bit on trial and may now have to use it. From what I can gather it is based on CivilCAD, but as I understand it CivilCAD is made by Sivandesign and still produced, but must use either the AutoCAD or ZWCAD (intellicad) CAD engine which it runs on top of or is released with these embedded. What is Magnet Office built on there is no mention of anything being embedded.

I don't know what CAD engine is used in Magnet Office. But it appears not to be any type of AutoCAD engine or emulator. The import process appears to be very basic, losing many advanced features from AutoCAD and Civil3d. If you going into Machine Control and want to create your own models, then I suggest looking at Carlson TakeOff, which will create native Topcon files such as TN3 and LN3.

@leegreen

Thanks Lee, If I find out the answer i'll tell you.

One up side of an entirely subscription based software is that if I decided change it then there is nothing to lose.

I found out in the last few days my Magnet Field is entirely Subscription based! it costs the same as the Magnet office, about $1200 NZD before tax annually. However Topcon have shut out Carlson from their source code, so its not so easy to swap. I believe Carlson have made themselves compatible with my Topcon Total Station by reverse engineering. I probably wont change MF as I am finding my way around it though.

Hey mate,

?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿMagnet Office is based on CivilCAD here in Australia, it's actually a completely different package to the one you mentioned, in the US I think Topcon was calling it Surveymaster. It is able to export all the Topcon machine control files you need, I'm currently doing it at the moment.?ÿ

Hi zammo,

Interesting I had a quick google for Surveymaster. I can easily believe that with a name like civilcad there might be more than one product out there. Topcon definately claims to be based on CivilCAD. I will have Magnet in a weeks time so I will be able to see whether there are any similarities. Hopefully I can transfer at least some autoCAD skills. I've tried watching some video Tutorials most have no talking and music drizzled over the top to try to make you learn! WTF Not that good IMO.
