Hi all. I'm interested in getting observations from a Leica total station into StarNet.

I'm aware of a function within StarNet made by MicroSurvey to translate a Leica DBX file to DAT. https://helpdesk.microsurvey.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/423/40/

?ÿ

Does Leica also produce such a utility? The information I can find on the forum and the web is inconclusive and several years old. Thanks.

Leica used to offer a STAR*NET export tool but it is now retired and unavailable.?ÿ While most people I talk to use the Leica DBX converter sold by MicroSurvey, some users in Australia or the UK have designed their own format files for export directly from the instrument.?ÿ

There is also a Flexline XML converter on the MicroSurvey website.

I do it manually, because none of the converters understood my field procedure.

1. Get the dbx file imported into LGO (I'm on 2.0 and 4.0 never needed to upgrade, all I use it for).

2. Open the Adjustments tab

3. Right click in it somewhere and pick "View observations" from the popup.

4. Right click inside the Observations and pick "Save"

5. Find the little box at bottom that says "selected" and change to "all"

6. Save it as a tab delimited file.

7. Now use Notepad (or a simple script if you have one) to edit the .txt file into Star*net format. (I use search and replace to change all the punctuation like degree symbols to dashes, put a slash in the measure ups, comment out the timestamps). During this step I add data from paper notes or lat/longs from OPUS results.

8. Now you are ready to open Starnet and add the file.

Hope this helps. It took a long time to evolve this system after frustration with all converters. Been doing it like this since 2007.

Just looking over the Captivate manual - there is a function to export raw data in TDS .raw or any of the several flavors of .RW5 format. StarNet can then convert those to .dat.?ÿ That is the way to go, IMO.?ÿ

I use a similar procedure to get data from the Tesla/Magnet outfit I am currently using into StarNet.?ÿ
