Running Carlson 2015, AutoCAD Version.
I want to be able to do two things (which are similar, but kind of separate). Both have to do with the symbol that is drawn for a specific code. These two things are:

1. Say I shoot a two corners, for the sake of discussion the NE and SW corners, of a Utility Vault. Is there a way to make Carlson use my symbol for utility vault and scale the NE corner of the symbol to the NE shot, and the SW corner of the symbol to the SW shot?

2. Say I take two shots, one on each end of a Park Bench... Is there a way to use one symbol (the Park Bench Symbol) and have one end of that symbol snap to the first shot, and have the other snap to the second. Similar to what the ALIGN command would do.

I am in the process of advancing our in office F2F procedures and this is something these two items are something that I have always wanted to do, but haven't yet.

These two features would save me SO MUCH time. And I haven't figured it out.

Anyone know if this is a doable thing? Or is it a pipe dream of mine at this point?

I can't answer your question, but look forward to seeing if anyone can provide a good answer. I need to get back to working on our F2F

I don't fully understand what you are trying to do but why not just shoot 3 corners on each of the features and then do the 4 sided building command in carlson to create a rectangle?

Similar, but I want a symbol to go on it, and be scaled and rotated correctly. And in the F2F process so I don't have to do them manually anymore.

I run Carlson and I don't think it is doable. I may be wrong though......

You have to set your F2F CAD template to have symbols, for Watermeter, Ironrod, etc... All of our symbols are just the default to the North, I would think you could rotate them, just like you do for the points. I do not know if you can have symbols snap to other symbols. For the vault you may have to shot in 3 corners use the close command, then take a shot in the middle and have that be your vault code symbol.

Could you upload a pic of what you want the F2F to do?

Insert Multi-Point Symbols
I have not used it , but this should work if you get it set up properly in your F2F.

SirveyorBill has it.

At the 2009 Carlson User Training Conference there was a field-to-finish presentation that included a multi-point symbol that would scale and rotate depending on the measured insertion points. Since this symbol (a car) was asymmetric it required three insertion points.

The PDF of that presentation should be available at http://update.carlsonsw.com/user_conf/user_conf_content_only.php?level0=Survey&level1=Field_to_Finish_2009

I googled that and it sounds like what I am talking about. I will give it a try. Thank you.

Check out the SZ (size) and ROT (rotate) special codes. From the Carlson http://files.carlsonsw.com/mirror/manuals/Carlson_2017/source/Survey/Survey/Field_to_Finish/Field_to_Finish.htm&apos ;">Draw Field to Finish on-line help:
SZ: Symbol Size
This code is used to set a different symbol size. There are several ways to use this code. It can take multiple scale factors for different dimensions by putting an ID character after the factor.

SZ: If nothing follows the SZ code, then the next point with the same field code as the current point will be used to determine the size.
...

ROT: Rotate
This code is used to set the rotation of the point symbol. If a point number follows the ROT code, then angle from the current point to this point number is used for the rotation. For example, "ROT45" would rotate the symbol towards point number 45. If there is no point number after the ROT code, then the rotation point is the next point number with the same code as the current point or a companion code for the current code. ROT can also be used to rotate towards an angle clockwise from north by using `+' or `-' in front of the number. For example ROT+45 rotates the point symbol to the northeast and ROT-90 rotates the point symbol to the west.
Got it. It takes some setup (not much) and the coding is pretty easy, like below...

If I get what you mean, what you want is a multi-point symbol, where you can define in Carlson.

I was gonna say, I could swear we were doing that when I was surveying in Tucson.
