FBK file

C3d does not provide any tools to convert your data collector's raw data file to fbk format. Look to your data collector for that. If you are running Survey Pro, for example, you can export your raw data from it to fbk format (also several other formats).

For the record, I have attempted at different times to run adjustments in Land Desktop and C3d and have always been frustrated.?ÿ Others have assured me that it can be done, but I've never been successful.?ÿ I've run adjustments in StarNet for 20 years and managed to figure out TBC and LGO within minutes. But C3d stymied me.

Survey Link in Civil 3D will convert your raw to fieldbook.?ÿ It has been that way as long as I can remember at least back to LDD 2005.

I have created manual fieldbooks before but I consider it a waste of a day and wouldn't try it again, it was only fun once.?ÿ It is a good interface but it is a lot of number punching for SD, VA and HA so you're much better off with a data collector.?ÿ There are several ways to adjust a traverse in C3D but I'm not familiar with them either

I agree the survey link works for converting files.?ÿ When it used to be Land Development the adjustment routines worked for me but since Land Development, they always seem to crash and not work.?ÿ Maybe I'm doing something wrong though.

The adjustment routines in Civil 3d work but they are clumsy, and they suffer from all of the drawbacks that the landesktop routines did (not adjusting sideshots taken from the first set up etc.) Survey Link only works for the older SurveyPro .job files. What Mark said is correct, the best way to get a .fbk file is to export using your data collector's export routine to write the .fbk file. You will most likely have to do some editing of that file to get it to run correctly. Study up on LDD adjustment procedures and the proper syntax for the .fbk format text file (The best discussion of this that I have ever seen is in the old Softdesk 8 users manual circa 1994 that's how long that it's been since the guts of the civil 3d traverse adjustment routines saw any development.)

I stand corrected about Survey Link being in there. I do note that it was last revised in 2003. Also, that this will work for Survey Pro files and a few other formats that existed back at the turn of the century only (at best, and if they haven't been modified since).?ÿ TBC or Access? Nope. Magnet? Nope. Viva or Captivate? Carlson? Nope. So, not nothing. But not much.

No need for correction survey link is still there but is limited in what formats it can translate from (mostly all ones that existed when specra precision bought TDS and sold rights to survey link to autodesk):

You can import .FBK files into Civil3d using the import survey data command using a survey database.?ÿ We stopped using FBK files about 5 years ago but you can still import them to Civil3d.
