I am getting 3D measurements when I measure a distance or label lines.
How do you get back to 2D results?

Perhaps I could give a more detailed answer if I knew what survey package you are using with your AutoCAD (Carlson? C3d? LDT? or?) but I'd guess that you have your point objects or blocks importing to their true elevation rather than to elevation 0, which then leads the linework being 3d, which then has labels and queries in 3d. So check your point insertion settings.

Not sure about '02, but can you click on "Utilities", "Edit", "Flatten Z Values"?

That should let you do a global zero elevation on the drawing objects.

Yeah, that's pretty dumb programming on AutoCAD's part. Carlson and Eagle Point always label the horizontal distance, regardless of the elevations. I'm a strictly 3D guy though. 😀

You may also want to try "osnapz" and change the setting.

This works in Civil3D, may work with earlier versions. The only thing is that it sometimes does not keep the value after you get out of ACAD and get back in, so I have to keep changing it. I have asked my tech to change it in our template, but we have bigger issues we are dealing with in C3D.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. The utilities-edit-flatten z values
seems like it should work. Set them all to 0 but it it doesn't do it.
I got this drawing from someone else and I don't know what software
they were using. I think it is a compatibility issue.
