I don't want to hijack the thread below, so I'll start a new one. I'm interested in the topic of digital levels and their end product. What type of files do they generate?
It seems that the leica files can be exported into excel, whereas the trimble file requires TBC. Am I correct in this assumption? What about Topcon and Sokkia?
I've used the Leica and post processed it with LGO.

I am using a Sokkia SDL 30 & from the software you could export it to CSV format. For the like of me, I have never been able to adjust level data using their software. I just do it in excel.
But using the SDL 30 most of my loop errors are less than 1 cm. so I don't really need to adjust the final data. I just use the data from the forward run. It is only for 1st order jobs that I would divide the residuals & add/minus from the final values.
The Leica produces a .gsi file, and StarNet has a converter that will parse that to .dat.
The Leica GSI files are ASCII text, if a bit cryptic (okay, more than a bit). The specifications are available, though, so custom parsing of the files is very doable for anyone with modest programming skills.
I use custom software to process the output of my DNA03 for use in Star*Net, though I still have to do some hand-editing.

Chuck Whalen, past NGS Director of Vertical Adjustments and Observations (leveling) wrote a software package that converts Trimble/Zeiss files and Leica files to the format accepted by NGS for BlueBooking. I do not know if it is still available - NGS personnel can clue you in to that.
If I remember correctly, it was $300-$400 for the license.

Translev from NGS includes a converter, and is available without charge.

My point is that is shouldn't require additional software, you should have the option to export it in various formats. Topcon has some freeware on their site that will convert their data into a csv file.

The trimble Dini will output to excel, when I got my dini 2 years ago, the dealer supplied it with a custom written excel macro that did everything. The results in TGO were disappointing, hence the excel macro. But I believe that TBC will do it all now.
TBC is a free download, you only need a license for some of the features, in no license version it will upload and download digital level data, you will need a standard license to adjust a network for levelling data though.
there is a document on trimble web site called "TBC feature reference guide" that explains what features are available in no license, standard license and advanced license mode. It does a lot in no license mode.

Just rename it to .dat, if you open either with text they look exactly the same 🙂
Digital Levels Leica DNA withTBC
Is anyone using a Leica DNA level with Trimble Business Center? If so how? I've bee spending an hour or so a day for about a week trying write an export format for our DNA levels. The documentation for both the M5 format(trimble dini) and the Leica format manager are seiously lacking.
