Lately there have been several websites that wouldn't load for various reasons so I decided to update firefox. That went horribly wrong and now firefox will not even load. Right now I am on Internet Explorer.

What is the latest version of firefox that I need to be running on a Windows xp sp3 computer. How can I save my bookmarks from the old firefox if it won't load?
I have no idea if it's 32 bit or 64 bit if that matters.

Thanks,
James

I might first suggest the three finger salute (control alt delete) to pull up your task manager. If firefox is running in the background, "stop" the process. Then try starting firefox. A reboot of the machine would accomplish the same thing.

If the above doesn't work, try this link:

See the following link for guidance on how to find the bookmarks.

I use XP Pro SP3.

The Firefox latest update is 17.0.1

Sometimes their upgrades do good and sometimes not.

On my machine Firefox and adobe upgrade will usually undo what the other does until recently. Now my Adobe Professional v6 will not open any PDF file thru Firefox and I must choose it find something on the net to open PDF files.

Well I gave up on updating.

I saved the bookmarks like John said (just in case) then tried updating manually, tried deleting the old version and updating, and finally reinstalled version 3.0.8 and still have my bookmarks.

The version 18 didn't work.

Back about 2 years ago when Firefox Version 4.0 update notification came up on my Windows 7 computer, I did the download. This was a very big mistake, as when the download completed a message flashed on the screen that "These Files Were/Are Not Compatible With This Version Of Firefox and Were Removed". There were about 5 files in the list and this messed up several program functions that I have never been able to get to work again. I've never downloaded another Firefox update to this machine since then.

I found a website that has most of the firefox versions. Many of the comments were similar. I downloaded the version 3.6.28 but I haven't gotten the nerve to try installing it yet. It seems to be the latest version in that series.

I was an avid Firefox user for years. Then I gave Chrome a try just for fun and have been hooked ever since.

I second the Chrome statement. I was using Firefox but once I tried Chrome, I was hooked. Been using it for several years now with no problems. Works well on XP and Win 7. I have no plans to go to Win 8.
