We have Carlson SurvCE on a GeoHT data collector. We do mostly RTK topo and in a few hours can rack up a few thousand points. This appears to slow down the controller, such that it takes more time to allow you take the next shot and particularly when using auto interval logging for bathymetric work the refreshing of the rover position indicator lags considerably. To get around this, we often have to start a new "point empty" job file. Anyone know if the amount of points does affect DC speed?

I have noticed several makes, models and various software 'slowing down' over the years but it's usually because it's way-too-chock-full of data. Just to be mindful I try to keep the amount of "losable" data to a minimum.

Yes, I thought that may also be the problem. It has 2Gb of internal memory that is about 80% full and I seem to recall when we first got the equipment 3 years ago we didn't have this problem i.e. when the memory was empty it was fast and not affected by the number of points in a job. Time for a cleanout.

Hi

I have noticed this as well using carlson SurvCe 3.02 at 2000 points or more
I matters not on the DC you are using i suspect
Our Carlson Surveyor plus have 1.2 gb
contacted carlson and there response from as best i can remember was to create a new project

Suggest starting a new job every day when you get into the Plus 2000 points range or use
a different soft for hydro work.

I have a company policy for autocad C3D 2016 that no drawing can contain more than 2000 shots
and a new drawing is to be started. Otherwise Slow Drawing so slow ..................

Using Carlson 5.02 now and suspect files should be less than 2000 shots other wise LAG.............................

Pete

Thanks. I've removed most of the job files etc from the DC internal drive so we will see if that makes a difference but agree it seems to be at around 2000 points it gets slow. We practically only ever use 1 BM localisation techniques and starting a new job is a bit of a hassle if we have to travel back to the BM. I wonder if the new job can use the old localisation file, or something along those lines, so that re-localising is not needed.

Hi

On most sites i have up to 10 job in different file folders to divide and conquer Points to different
drawings in C3D 2016
Pipes
excavation
Og ground line
Subgrade
Over excavation
Endless.................................

YES Richard you are saved there is in Surve CE what you want
Look under Job settings
Next
New Job "Generic Settings my take"
Check Check Box Use last Job Localization
Your QC Check is
Look in equipment TAB chose localization tab and the points for localization should be there ... all is good

I took me a while but today i will jump between jobs and create a new job for just five shots
in less than 1 minute. Thanks to use last job localisation = Carlson programmers many thanks...

Check into a control point close at hand and do use last control file Check box is on and stake a control file point to confirm / test out use last
job localization is doing what you think.

One thing take some time to set up multi folders to control the above
Keep localization and control points in control FILE

Ie
Control folder
File ast folder
File dsa folder
for various parts of the same worksite
DON't put everything in one folder
use lots and lots of folders then back off
you get the idea
etc

Pete
