Convert Parcel Identification Map in .pdf to .dxf for Carlson SurvPC

Find somewhere a Parcel SHP file of the area you work. Could take some searching or calling around, but there's a chance there's one out there. Import to CAD and use as needed. There's also PARLAY for Google Earth, essentially a KMZ of parcel shapes for the entire US. Export the parcels you need as KMZ's, use any tool you'd like to convert to a DXF. SurvPC might even take a KMZ. That said PARLAY is much more than $125 a year, I think I pay $300 annually.

Last option is just to bring the PDF into CAD, scale it and trace it. Adjust to fit your search calcs, or just transform it in to place with SurvPC. Nowhere near perfect, but close enough to answer the general 'Where am I' question when running boundary in the field.

Try using the command pdfimport.  You can convert vector and raster to linework and the save as a dxf.

Carlson's CADnet, one of the six options for Carlson Office Suite, has several options for this.  There are several variations/options for PDF drawings, and CADnet deals with them all.

Is this for SurvPC? I went to the map screen and entered pdfimport on the command line. I got something like Unknown command. I used the import command in Civil 3-D, but it displayed Converting 11063 PDF elements... and appeared like it would take forever to finish the conversion to a .dwg file. The size of the .pdf file is 2.18 MB.

@field-dog in Autocad or intellicad, it will convert to line work, if it is a cad generated pdf, it works really well.  I usually import it to a block so it would be easier to align to the cad file

I'm not familiar with Carlson SurvPC but it sounds like you are looking for a basemap which includes parcel lines. I would look for a service which is already showing the parcel lines, you might look through the available basemaps and see if any of them already include the parcel lines. You can create a free account on esri and look at the what options are available. The free account has very generous usage of the basemaps which would be difficult to exceed with even a few people sharing the same account

I have access to the county’s Property Identity Maps. We call them tax maps. I got one map as a .pdf file, used a free online converter to convert it to a .dxf, and opened it up in Civil 3D. I have to trim off the border, probably rescale it, and align it with our SPC system. I should be able to import the map into my data collector and my located corners should be clearly visible. This will relieve me of the burden of having to mark up paper copies of tax maps. I want all of my work to be in a digital format and readily available so I can track my progress.

You might  look for your states GIS data. I find googling "state" GIS or the county and state and GIS gets me  pretty close to exactly what i want.
