Hi Everyone,

Can someone educate me to make a decision in this scenario please?

I have got Liscad 2022 installed but so far I haven't got it's full use. I needed support from Listech for setting up CODE lists properly match with survey controller. When I asked for support their response wasn't upto the expected level. A sales ref even asked me to purchase Customer Care Package (Listech Cover) which I think costs around 2000AUD - 3000AUD a year. Wrote me to look at the Liscad internal help instead till I purchase the package. Also it's rare to find Liscad help vedios on youtube.

I'd be able to purchase latest version Carlson Survey office software (Intellicad) for around 2000AUD - 3000AUD with local support. I could find many help videos as well. Is it a good decision to go that dirtection? Currently I'm using Leica Captivate with Leica gear.

I know there are lot of members here use Carlson so I think this is the best place to ask this question.

Thanks in advance.

I'd spend the extra money and get the Carlson on the autocad engine.

@andy-j

I've been using Carlson with embedded ACAD for almost 20 years, and I like it.  My only exposure to ICAD was in it's first offering withe Carlson, and it was terrible.  Others here say that it's come a long way since then, and I think they've said that it's about 80-90% as good as with ACAD now.

I've been using Carlson SurvCad since around 2004 and have used both IntelliCad and AutoCAD as the CAD platform.  I also use Leica equipment only.  SurvCad is an excellent surveyor's package.

I have not used LisCAD for production in over since Leica introduced Infinity.  That being said, I started using it when it was first introduced to the NA market in the early 90's (replaced Wildsoft).  Once you get it set up it is great for processing and adjusting field data.  I would venture to say that Leica modeled Captivate's stringing on LisCAD.  There are still a couple of collection features LisCAD has that I wish Captivate would include.  My opinion was that it really lacked as a CAD drafting platform.  I would export points and lines into DCA/LDD/C3D for final map production.  Things may have improved on the drafting side, the last LisCAD version I have access to is v12.

PS, LisCAD will import Leica Smartworks, Viva and Captivate databases.  You can even add LisCAD processor codes to you Leica code tables.
