The company I'm working with uses a Topcon FC 5000 collector with Carlson SurvCe. I like the setup so far but something has been bugging me and I can't seem to find an answer to it. Carlson draws some of the linework as you're doing a topo, and this is great for a newbie like me, but if I mess up coding I get wacky lines drawn across my map view. I'm wondering if there is a way to tell Carlson to redraw the lines after I fix erroneous point numbers or codes?

I've clicked around in the setup menus but nothing has jumped out to me as an answer to this so I thought I'd ask here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Map View - Tools - Field to finish. There you can Update, presumably after you have fixed the coding. So presumably if you wanted to "break" a line at some particular shot say that has the code "CONC" you would add " EL" (space EL) to it i.e. "CONC EL" - where in SurvCE "EL" tells it to "end line".

Ahh, I see. It didn't even occur to me that SurvCe might have its own codes. I will look for this menu.

Carlson has developed *.fcl (feature code library) files for many state DOTƒ??s. Check the Carlson knowledge base for the free download or you can create your own fcl with Carlson Export.

In my opinion, field coding with SurvCE is quite tedious. This is one of my frustrations before until experience outsmarted this issue. This is a piece of cake in Fieldgenius environment where coding is done visually.

Try not to get too caught up fixing little things on the DC unless you know that will resolve the issue downstream. Often the office will be processing the field work in ways that are independent of what you see at the data collectron.

I found the menu/tool to do it. It's buried and kind of tedious to do but if you navigate to it and type 'update' the collector will redraw all the lines. I know it won't necessarily affect what gets drafted but it'll definitely keep me from confusing myself further and that's really what my goal is.

Map View
Command bar
F2F-enter
U-enter
And all updated.

Good for you for trying to fix your linework and getting linework to draw and be correct. To many field guys don't care or don't even pay attention enough and the office staff gets your work runs field to finish and lines go everywhere and they have to sort out that mess or nothing happens cause they make stuff up. We have a very large FCL that pretty much draws everything we need. When I work in the field I always draw my lines and I sometimes export my line work for the office to look at and compare to theirs. Once setup it very useful and a timesaver in imo.

Oh you can just type U and it understands the rest? That is good to know also. I did try using the redraw command and then select end all lines with the idea of ending all lines at the end of the day and then being able to start over with codes the next day but that did not appear to work. I tried this halfway through a large project though and didn't try highlighting all of the codes so maybe that's why.

What version of SurvCE are you using? I never use the end all lines unless I am done 100%. Or I know I have accidently left some line open ended. It should draw to the last point number of an opened line without and ending code.

Not sure what version of software it is since the collector is at the office but I believe the most recent.

The other surveyors I work with don't end their lines and instead just create new lines with a new number while I've been ending lines and reusing the same number. Their method seems like it could be a little faster but only if I could end all lines everyday so I don't end up with a bunch of line numbers in the hundreds, which again is confusing.
