Decoding the Antikythera Mechanism

I read a book about this thing maybe as long ago as ten years. I don't seem to have the book now, but I recall thinking, as I did watching the movie, that (a) clearly this was an astounding piece of technology, and (b) that once in a while I could sort of feel (as opposed to detect) a whiff of over-enthusiasm in some of the interpretations of the x-rays. One thing scientists have to watch for (surveyors included) is the discovery you make because you hope to. Even so, it's one of the great mysteries.
