We have a network license for Carlson Survey. Seems to work OK, we can use it on two different computers, not at the same time of course. Before I got the network license I had a working version on my desktop and a working version on my laptop. But now, with the network license, the laptop version won't run because it is not setup do check the license server. I wanted to take it on the road with me yesterday. No problem, they have a "commuter" license that I can check out the license and leave the office with it. So yesterday I tried to do that. But, I cannot figure out where it put the file I need to transfer to my laptop, and I don't even know what that file is called. So, now I cannot run it on any computer, because it says the license is checked out.

Can anyone tell me WHERE it is? I want to bring it back to the license server so that we can use it in the office.

The network license folder is in the program files for Carlson. The actual license is a txt file. usually the name of the date you received it from Carlson. Sorry I can't be of more help but I have already left the office. I can send you a screen shot in the AM if it won't be too late - but sure someone will respond before then.

this may help

One of these will probably help you depending on which method you used to export the license. Based on how you described it, I'd start with topic 218.

If the commuter license happens to be "stuck", you might also explore:

Now it seems that I CAN run Carlson Survey on the desktop. So it looks like the license is back on the server.

Now that I have a little more time, I will explain, maybe I didn't do it correctly.

I ran wcommute.exe on the same computer that the server is on. It says that I have 0 commuter tokens in use and 1 commuter token left. So, I try to "check out", and I get this message:

I run wlmadmin.exe. It says I have 1 license available.

Strange that you cannot resize this box either by maximizing or by dragging a side or corner, so you have to scroll horizontally and vertically to see everything.

When I refresh it after starting carlson survey, it says 1 in use. So everything looks OK.

So, what am I doing wrong with the check out to commuter? Should I be running this from the target machine (i.e. the laptop)?

The links I posted earlier are for two methods of checking out the license for the laptop. The first one is for a situation where the laptop is at a remote location and the second one is for a situation where the laptop and server are on the same network in the same location.

I don't use a network license so I'm no help except to say that the knowledge base links seem to give pretty thorough instructions on both methods.
