I have given this combo a serious workout over the last 45 days. Findings:
1. I actually like Intellicad better than Acad.
2. It is stable. Have not had a single crash in the 45 days I have used it.
3. Drawings seem 100% compatible with Acad dwg.
4. Some of the things I always disliked about Acad are done better in Intellicad.
5..Loads faster.
6. Carlson works perfectly with it. I have not found a single glitch
7. It is refreshing to work with a software other than arrogant Acad. I have a subscription to Autodesk civil infrastructure suite, but for my road designs, civil design, and surveying, I like Carlson a lot better (way better).
Thank you Carlson for sticking with Intellicad. I don't think I'll be continuing my Acad subscription next time it comes due.

What version of Intellicad is it? The last time I used intellicad-early 2016, I got tired of the crashes and went to the OEM version of Carlson. On top of the extra price the OEM version has missing commands.
Ater using Carlson with Intellicad for 5 years now I have come to the conclusion that if you are sharing files with other Autocad users you need to be using an Autocad based product. If you are just producing paper drawings and not sharing files Intellicad works fine.
I plan on swapping to the OEM version of Carlson this year.
I agree with Frank. I've been using Carlson with Intellicad for quite a few years and find that the latest build is very stable. I also use C3d and have several C3d only clients and have found no significant issue with sharing drawings and using xml for sharing alignments, corridors, surfaces and profiles.
Somebody made an interesting post last week that clients rarely tell you about your shortcomings and that they just deal with them until someone comes along with fewer shortcomings. I think this is definitely true. I have used enough non-autocad based products to know that there are many shortcomings in not using an AutoCad based product when sharing files. Do I like it? Absolutely not, but I need to be certain that what I see on my computer is the same as what my client sees. Intellicad is just not providing that for me. Just my experience.

I'd like to know a little about the computer you are running this on. Which operating system you are using?

You are running into a client that, from the sounds of it, want Civil 3D objects. Carlson is designed to use standard Autocad entity types. Write out an xml file for your centerlines, profiles and surfaces, or if your project areas aren't too big, make a layer for surface tmesh and draw the surfaces as 3d faces and they have all the data they need. I am approaching starting my solo practice and only plan on having Carlson on Intellicad. Autodesk products are not the be all to end all.

I suggest you download a copy of dwg truview and each time you save a drawing in Intellicad open it up in dwg Truview to see if what you are getting looks the same in both. Nothing to do with Civil 3d.
I go back and forth between Carlson and Civil 3d without any problems, however I am running the OEM version.
Good to hear that Carlson Intellicad software is a viable option.
It is interesting that they followed Microsurvey with Intellicad into the market place.

Mark, I am using a HP 820 Professional Workstation with a Quadro 4000 graphics card.

Windows 10, then? How much RAM?

If I remember correctly, Intellicad crashes are often linked to video cards and drivers. If that's the case, then the choice of video cards could be critical to whether you experience a lot of crashes or none.

Windows 10, and I think 32 gigs of ram.
IntelliCAD bug. About half the time when I load it, I cannot get my cursor to show up in the work area. Suddenly started happening. Have to exit program and restart, and usually it is OK. I hope they fix this soon.
