Can I do auto line work in C3D with out creating using the Survey Database and Figures?
I just want C3D to draft lines, not 3D polylines and/or lock them down to a figure database.
Not that I am aware of, without some additional add-on software that is.
I'm not 100% sure of this, but I think it will work just like it did in LDD. Mainly if you start a line with the letter B and end it with a E. For example the shots B EOP and E EOP would start and end a line called EOP. To make this work I convert it to a "Softdesk Field Book With Line Work" through the Surveylink that comes built into the software. This surveylink looks exactly like it did in LDD.
I agree with brinker, I don't think you can. Not sure how you would tell Civil3D to use your linework code set without going through the "import survey data" process.
This is the way I seem to remember it with Eagle Point and LDD.
I'll need to look into it further. I think I got it to sort of work several years ago in an earlier version of C3D with the .fbk file, but my memory is not as good as it used to be.
Exactly... otherwise you're just importing points, nothing more, nothing less. If it's a huge deal about them being 3D use the export to autocad feature after you bring them in. It flattens them, you'll have to rejoin them though.
I guess I should add I am going through the Survey Import process to make it happen.

If you could figure out how to import a fbk file without going through the survey database import you might be able to accomplish this. If you aren't using the survey database I believe all you can import is points. XML import may be an option of a DXF file import if you can convert your data accordingly.
Curious, why would you not want to use the Survey Database and Figures? Initially I hated it too but now i can't live without it, it's easier than LDD and more functional. Just dont try to force LDD methods on Civil3d, it will give you grey hair!
No you can not.
But use the survey database, even as temporary landing spot, so your "B" and "E" commands work. to generate the linework. Then nuke the figures into polylines. Then remove the points, and reimport the points as Civil points.
It will work, but I don't recommend it. I recommend using the Survey Database.
You can in a way. Import your points normally (as you did in LDD). Then, import the drawing points into the survey database for running linework without checking the boxes to lock them down. This will allow you to have survey figures and still have drawing points. Then you can dumb down the survey figures, if you want. I typically use them and wait to dumb them down until I send a drawing out to someone. Syncpac has a great tool for converting survey figures and feature lines to 2d polylines.
Of course, this requires using C3D description linecodes (not fieldbook coding), so it could change how you do things.
I don't blame you for trying to get around the Survey Database. It hasn't worked right since day one. If you remember Sync (who was the best at figuring out how to survey with C3D), he always recommended using the Survey Database as little as humanly possible.
I still just do my line work manually and draw everything at 0
