Dang. Hate to lose another contributor. Having also been born in 1953, this serves as a reminder that continued life is not guaranteed.

This is absolutely horrible.

My wife and I had a long-running private "thread" via email going on since the inception of BeerLeg which abruptly halted a few months ago. I tried contacting him to no avail, hoping it was simply a spam problem or something. But I knew he was quite ill.

So sorry to hear this. I've never met the man, but he was obviously a good one and a great friend. Even through his tough times, he was there to cheer us on and send positive wishes for us. I will miss his positive and upbeat vibes.

Sad to hear of his passing.

I met David at a Great Lakes Height Mod conference in Lafayette a couple of years ago and spoke to him on the phone a few times.

Seemed like a great guy.

David was 12 days older than me. It's very sad that he's gone, and very sobering at the same time.

Damn it... 🙁 My buddy!!!!! :u:

I was wondering why I hadn't heard from him in a while. I tried to get a hold of him several times to no avail. He and I use to discuss our arthritic problems together and how we'd love to cure the world of it all. He sent us a sympathy card when we lost Grandma. He would send us little postcards and stuff in the mail to show he cared. I of course did the same. Rest in peace now my friend...no more pain, no more hospital, no more crap!!! We loved you, you were one of the good ones.

DAMN IT!!! :-@ 🙁

Remembering David Lee Absher, PLS - Update

Weird things happen...

Today as I was walking around PLSO, chatting with everyone, and having a good time, David popped into my mind for some reason. There's a little thing I've been praying about for a while now for Wendell and it was weird it was like I felt him give me a thumbs up :good: to my prayer all of a sudden...now get this...

I get a call at 7:45 PM PST...from a # I do not recognize. I listened to my voice mail after the banquet and it was DAVIDS WIFE RAYE ANNE CALLING!!!!! She left me a message thanking me for my kind words in his mortuary memory book, in the notes & cards I sent, etc... and said David had always talked so good about me, and he had left some stuff behind for me but she was trying to figure out exactly what it was by his "Beer Leg" index cards. (She also told me about the "JERK" index card he had; something David would remind me of who we needed to watch out for in the surveying world. Apparently he kept a record! And he had a few other choice words by these names besides "jerk". LOL!!)

So I call her back and we wind up talking for over 2 HOURS about all of this!!! Wow!!! As sick as David was, he was still thinking of little ol' Wendell and I, and how he could help us!!! That's why he had the index card!! He was keeping notes on what kind of help he could do for certain things him and I had been discussing. Aww man.... *sniffles* My heart aches for his family and loved ones and what he went through the last year of his life. He went through HELL and back and suffered greatly. Now I know why he was not replying back to me all those times. 🙁

So glad he is not suffering now and enjoying his eternal life, probably in Surveyor Heaven. :sun:
We miss and love you VERY MUCH David.
