For those who haven't heard, what we have been fearing happened this weekend and Paul Reid lost his struggle against an aggressive opponent. He had been fighting for a couple of months and at one time we thought he had defeated it, but it was very short lived and it came roaring back.
All of us that knew him are shattered and depressed beyond words, one of the really good guys and we all lost a good friend.
Condolences to his family. One of the good guys!

Such sad news.
Condolences to his family and friends.
One of my favorite posters here not only his survey voice but more as a good person to know.
RIP
Terrible news!
A great loss to all.
RIP

I'm truly sorry to hear of this.
I remember some first posts I saw you two had "towards" each other and thought you guys at odds. After some many posts another time, reading between the lines, it was clear to me you guys were actually good friends. It seemed that way to me anyhow.
I know up close and VERY personal what "shattered and depressed" feels like after loosing someone. My Mom "defeated" her terminal cancers and one came back roaring as you say. She decided to fight it once again and went back into chemo. She had one treatment and never saw the 2nd.
God speed to you Pablo! Say hi to Mom for me.
I'm truly saddened by this news. I didn't know and had wondered why he hasn’t posted recently. I never got to meet him, I missed him by a day in SLC a couple years ago, we had planned to meet. I've exchanged a few emails and I have the greatest respect for him. Truly a great loss to the surveying profession and even more so for his family.

Very sorry to learn this. Pablo and I had very different political sensibilities, but I greatly respected his professional stature, even though I knew him only only online.
How old was he?

He was 69. His last post was on a thread that you started:
Dang it! Another good one gone too soon.
He was cranky sometimes but very, very knowledgeable about surveying. He knew how to sort the wannabes from the true surveyors. He will be missed here.
Sorry to hear this, RIP Sir.
I have been acquainted with Paul for a number of years, may have even meet him back in the 1980's when I lived and worked in Western Wyoming, I actually think I still have a certificate of attendance from some PLSW workshop signed by him, but too many years have passed to know if we actually ever met. More recently I had talked to him on the phone about a project in his area.
Sad news indeed!

That's a bummer. Pablo always struck me as a real surveyor. He used Star*Net, as I recall and his witticism that comes sadly to mind at this moment was that "you can have my Star*Net after you pry it out of my cold, dead hands."
So sorry to hear this. I always enjoyed his posts. 🙁
Sorry to hear this- my condolences..
This is sad news. From reading his posts all these years I liked and respected Paul. My condolences to his family and friends.
Well that sucks!!! I'm sorry to hear this. I told you guys NO ONE else is allowed to pass away this year...no one!! Paul must of not have got that message. :'(
My thoughts and prayers go out to Paul and his family, friends, and loved ones.
RIP. Maybe he is on the same crew as my Dad as they measure and prepare a place in Heaven for those of us yet to arrive.
Wow. I had no idea how old he was, or that he was ill. Pablo was helpful, and kindly always toward me, and he will be missed.
