Jerry passed away Saturday 9/06/2025 at the age of 89. Jerry lived and surveyed in the Rocky Mount NC area. He was a Vietnam veteran and flew the U2 spy planes. His past posts on this forum are an interesting read. He will be missed greatly.
Sorry to hear. I had a few nice exchanges with Jerry after I posted about watching U2 touch-and-goes at Beale AFB.
Shelby Griggs sent me thisobit for Jerry
I am sad to learn that Jerry has passed. For him living in NC and myself in Oregon we had a lot of interactions including both of us visiting at each others homes more than once. I can't recall exactly when we struck up a friendship (but it was due to this forum or it's predecessor), however I do know our first in person meeting was 01-Aug-2006 in Bend, OR. Jerry had just bought a car load of Leica GPS gear in Portland, OR.
18-Jul-2009 Jerry and I in front of my home in Oregon, upgraded from the rabbit to a jetta, both diesel of course!
22-Nov-2007 at Jerry's home in NC where I had spent Thanksgiving with his family, I still have the Ram truck.
Friend, I will miss you.
Never mind the spy plane stuff. Jerry must have had buns (and nerves) of steel to drive a Rabbit from coast to coast and back.
I never had any interaction with him, but read his posts with great interest and held him in high esteem knowing that very few pilots had the 'right stuff' to fly the 'Dragon Lady' to the edge of space and bring themselves safely back to the ground. I would say a life very well lived and this profession is poorer with his passing.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
@norman-oklahoma well, I suspect long flights in the U2 probably conditioned him for long drives in the Rabbit 🙂
Another name from the deep past in following this site and its predecessors. Excellent contributor.
