Well it took us about 10 minutes and 23 seconds with the Trimble MX-2 Mobile LiDAR unit. In the video you can see our targets pass by on the shoulder. They are set every 1000 feet. I love playing with the 360 degree camera. That's me driving, pretty tough day at the "office" and a great way to capture the route.?ÿ

Be sure to pause and pan around. If you watch it on your phone just move the phone around...way cool.

Yes, we are scanning a total of about 30 miles in that area where they are having pavement failures. Fast tracked full of ongoing construction.

For this section in the video we set targets every 1000 feet. We have a template cut from Plywood and we use a spray gun to paint them so that goes pretty quick. We then observe each target location at least twice with local RTK Adjusted network. 2-60 sec sessions. We try to hit them all one direction then start over and enough time usually passes for the SV to move. For 7.5 miles we painted and shot the targets in two days with a three man crew and two trucks. Will take a day to process the files and about 3 days to extract the pavement lines, EOS, EOP, CL, Etc.

Since this is a unique project where they just want the pavement it will go much faster.

About two days to fully process and extract 3D polylines at 50 foot stations. Then about another day for DTM and Microstation seed file conversions and what not

This project has about 4-5 sections cut up like this.

When we go south to Hopkinsville or Nashville we get on at exit 56.?ÿ Its about 10 miles from home.?ÿ We live about 5 miles off exit 45.?ÿ My wife flies out of Nashville about 3 times/month, and Ive told her to stay in the passing lane whenever possible.?ÿ The other lane is terrible.?ÿ As my old boss used to say, "the difference between asphalt and concrete paving is like the difference between chicken salad and chicken $hit."

Question is what are yall going to produce from the mapping??ÿ I would think the whole thing needs to be rubbleized and paved over.

?ÿ

From MP 51-65 both EB and WB the route will be completely removed and rebuilt the Cabinet hopes to have the plans out by October. We are just a sub providing the cross sectional data. As I am sure you know, they are currently performing emergency repairs to make it through the summer and winter. I'm not an engineer but from what I can see is that the under drain systems are not working correctly and water is coming up and allowing the slabs to pump. In the areas where the slabs are broken and dug out it looks like bare earth the sub-grade is all but gone.

Very cool.?ÿ Which 360 degree camera did you use??ÿ It must be pretty rugged if it can stand being mounted to a vehicle like that.

That camera is just the GoPro Fusion. It is pretty tough. I just used the normal GoPro suction cup mount. The real amazement is the stabilization in their software.

This is probably the first of many. Traffic was backed up to at least exit 40 last night.?ÿ

That section of I24 has gotten so bad that I pretty much always take either 68 or the Trace up to 62 if I'm going to Paducah.

Will be glad to see it repaired.

About the same amount of time with about 1m points per second vs the 72k from the mx2.?ÿ Our velodyne is 2cm so a bit fuzzier than your 1cm but our faro is 2mm so the results are as smooth as the trajectory.

Scan on.
