This is a Wild Heerbrugg plumb bob.
Are they really "better"?
Hang plumb-er?
I looked for a category. Didn't find one for Surveying Tools, or equipment.
Just curious, about the plumb bob.
They hang plumb-er under dense tree canopy.
Its a "New Style," the "Old Style" are cooler.
🙂
Don't ya hate it when things that you've used are now categorized as being "vintage".
Sorry, but I think that's an ugly plumb bob....
But only the old style ones are reliable enough to work in Texas, don't you know...

All bobs in Texas hang a little off plumb towards the north because the PLSS sucks so much.

The Texas surveyor is familiar with this source of error, of course, and compensates by applying the La Grange Correction

Yes, better and plumb-er. They have a liquid mercury core with titanium baffles as a gravitational dampening mechanism to eliminate the wobble that can occur when using plumb bobs of lesser quality.
All the plumb bobs that came with my TS are in practically mint condition as they have never been used, by me.
[SARCASM]Mercury you say, don't let OSHA know[/SARCASM]
I agree, the stock bobs are mostly ugly and should be used as a last resort.
Nothing compares to a Lufkin 20 OZ.

Mission accomplished...:p
I used (and still have) a 24 oz. Bob (since the late 60s), but I would have to go out to the truck to check the "brand."
🙂

The Wild-Heerbrugg plumb-bob has the same offset as the wild Prism constants, so that you can dial in zero on your distomat for your prism constant instead of making sure you have the exact correct offset number dialed in.

I still have a stash of -34.4 mm plumb bob string

Yeah, but they cost 4 times as much 🙂
Well look at the bright side, if it was a Trimble Plumb Bob, you'd have to send them $100 or it wouldn't hang at all!
🙁

That $100 is only good for one year, you need to renew annually for firmware support.

non-transferable, of course
