I was loading up the truck, came out of the barn and a guy was at the house door. I soon recognized him, known him all my life. Asked him how he was and he said he'd soon feel a lot better. Never heard that one before. I thought maybe he wanted some survey or something but he soon said he owed me some money. I didn't have a clue. He proceeded to tell me he bought a saxophone from me in high school for $380 but only paid the first $300. Honestly I don't remember. I was a musician of sorts in many rock bands playing guitar and always interested in horn sections. I had played trombone in Jr High and always was interested in sax. He said during high school I told him I had bought the sax but decided I was never going to learn to play so I sold it to him. I eventually did play sax as an Army Bandsman but didn't start that until after high school. I questioned him whether he had me confused with someone else but he insisted that I sold him the sax and he had felt bad every time he ran into me for the last 40 plus years. I could have did it but still don't recall ever selling him the sax or being upset that I was never paid in full. So I finally gave in, I said if it would make him feel better, and took the bank envelop with some cash he handed me. I didn't look inside until after he left and I went into the house. There was six $100 bills in the envelope. Now this guy has made a lot of money and could afford this, but I still can't remember selling him that sax. But I certainly been paid in full!
The world could use a lot more decent, honest people like that, doing the right thing just because.

I trust that you used the money to go out and buy yourself a saxophone, Leon. I would go for an alto sax, but it's up to you. You probably know this, but it would not be entirely honest to buy a kazoo and get the seller and subsequent listeners to write you affidavits stating that they thought it was a sax. In the end though, as I mentioned, it's up to you.
Never played alto. Played tenor and bari and soprano. Soprano hardest to play but favorite. You can cut through a whole jazz band with that one.
Sold the Selmer Mark VI tenor about 1991. Haven't played sax since. Still have a nice Gibson Les Paul Custom Guitar (1990) but don't play that either.
Still don't like me, eh? Don't think that will ever change. Doing the right thing will never happen will it? I'd forget I ever encountered you too if you'd leave it alone.
> Still don't like me, eh?
Good lord, what does that have to do with the difference between a saxophone and a kazoo? :>
About as much as implying I'm dishonest and get fake affidavits, but go ahead Kent if it makes you feel better.
> About as much as implying I'm dishonest and get fake affidavits ...
Leon, why should I care if you get fake affidavits? You're still in Utah, right? That's another country.
Pay It Forward
Since you are unsure if it should be your money, it probably isn't. God, fate or whatever has placed it in your hands for now. You are an agent of God or fate. Eventually it will come to your attention where the money should go. When that moment comes, do not hesitate.

Your story reminded me of something my dad told me a long time ago..... You may forget someone owes you money but you will never forget you owe someone money.
'Vegas baby. Pack up the car and go....
:good:
He still shorted you....
$80.00 @ 6% for 40 years = $876.60
$876.60 - $600.00 = $276.60 still owed
Put a lien on something! 😉

The NSA just relayed this info to the IRS
Be prepared to pay taxes on this next year.:-(
Paying it forward sounds like a great choice. Now the challenge is how to do that for the ultimate effect.
Little story, no big deal. I went to an auction this past Saturday. Ended up with over 200 music CD's for a total of $5. Everything from Ralph Emery to you-name-it. The seller must have watched a lot of late night television with a credit card in his hand. Anyway, I placed the boxes of CD's in Mrs. Cow's vehicle and simply told her I had a surprise for her. She plays CD's on the drive to and from school everyday plus uses them for quiet background noise when letting her students have time to work on their studies. She was really surprised when she discovered her present. First, she told every kid in every class they couldn't leave the room until they took a CD. Most were very pleased. Then she had a student take those left to the grade school music teacher to pick through and then on to the high school music teacher. They, too, were thrilled. The high school music teacher especially appreciated the instrumentals because he likes to work with the kids on identifying exactly what instruments are dominating at various points in instrumentals. I'm not sure if Mrs. Cow ever got any of them back. She's the school hero.
I feel sorry for that other buddy of his, who is wondering why his rich friend finally paid him only $80 for that car he sold him 40 years ago. 😀
Pay It Forward
Along those lines, I know what I would do. The school band is most likely underfunded. I would donate it in his name.
Kent!! Really!? Hope all that made you feel better, otherwise it was a total waste of time. Surely you have something better to do than practicing being a Richard Cranium. It's all just so unnecessary and totally uncalled for.
I normally enjoy your posts but there is just no excuse for someone of your age going out of their way to be rude.
Thumper was right, "If you can't say something nice, don't say nutthin' at all".

Good grief, what happen to having a little levity? I certainly didn't see any implication in the funny comments Kent made. I got a chuckle out of it and honestly didn't go away thinking Leon was dishonest. Lighten up folks.
That is funny! I still watch that on netflix.
Karma. Scratch one off.
My name is EarlB-)

Me too. I was disappointed it was canceled whereas all the "reality TV" junk stays on season after season.
EDIT: I suppose My Name is Earl IS reality TV for some.
