So after I passed my Colorado test I treated myself with a new gun, but no ammo to be found anywhere. I am not an ammo horder. I normally keep a box or two of this and that for hunting. Man I can't even find one box of 9mm to shoot a couple beer cans off the fence post. I am so ready for all this to be over.?ÿ
Is it like this everywhere or just because I live close to a big city??
been like that here for since about 3/1.?ÿ well, honestly, i haven't been in a store here in a bit, but it certainly was cleaned out for a couple months, no reason to believe it'd be different now.
see, your problem is buying a 9.?ÿ if you'd have snagged a .357 sig or a .44 you'd find some stuff still on the shelf.
?ÿ
ed: just went to the underwood ammo site- they're sold out of just about everything too.?ÿ never seen that.?ÿ loved my 357 sig before all this, especially now though- if i needed it there's ammo to be had just about everywhere.
@flyin-solo Nope, those are gone too. Only thing on the shelf is bird shot, .223, 30-06 and two boxes of .308.
I may be heading down to Texas/Louisiana to fly the drone for damage assessment and hopefully somewhere in a small town in Texas I can find some ammo.?ÿ
@stlsurveyor just try every academy you see.?ÿ can't believe there's .223, down here that has almost as much demand as 9mm.
i have a box or two of everything i need- which is to say i don't subscribe to the idea that, outside of target practice that i'll be needing a massive quantity of anything.?ÿ if a situation were to arise where more than a magazine is needed, it's probably best to just go ahead and reserve one of those for myself...
I wouldn't go to an academy, they're sold out all over the state.?ÿ Find a mom and pop gun store in the area you are working and you may get lucky.?ÿ What part of TX are you headed to @stlsurveyor?
So after I passed my Colorado test I treated myself with a new gun,
What did you buy??ÿ
9mm ammo is nowhere to be found in Orlando area.?ÿ
@flga Glock 19 5 gen
?ÿ
Try Ammoseek.com I couldn't fine any 45 acp locally and was able to get some through them.
I wasn't aware that there was another ammo shortage but considering I have 7 of the green Army ammo boxes here in my office that are mostly full, I think I am good. I can always go get into my Wife's ammo stash if necessary. ?????ÿ
My wife works in the sporting goods section at a local store. When they get a shipment of ammo (mostly 9mm) in most of it doesn't even make it to the shelves. The only hand guns they have in stock are expensive semi-auto's and revolvers. Everything else is gone and more is on back order. Most of the people buying the guns seem to have no idea what they are for. I have no clue why this is happening. And we are not in a major city, only about 38k.
@turnercyrilh
thanks.
@turnercyrilh Thanks, I checked - Bingo!
For 9mm, look in the section with bb and pellet guns????
Seriously,.. I havent noticed a shortage here but the big boxes are gouging. The family has lot's of reloading supplies but not for 45 acp. Perhaps it's time I give it a try....
Just went by the local sporting goods store. Almost no pistols left. Shotgun ammo is plentiful, but no 9mm or .223/5.56. One box of 7.62x39 that was over $1/round.?ÿ
"I am so ready for all this to be over. "
?ÿ
So - is there any news on when the shortage will be over?
Sweet gun. Here is a custom one you can have for a paltry $2K. ?????ÿ
I reload and most of the raw supplies are sold out too.?ÿ It's hard to find brass, bullets, powder and primers.?ÿ Thankfully I learned my lesson after the last thing, H1N1??ÿ Since the beginning of this that's how I've spent my free time.?ÿ I would say it's kept me out of the bars but well...COVID did that regardless LOL.?ÿ When you make it out to CO let's go shoot!?ÿ Although right now you can't even do that because of all the fire bans.?ÿ It's hard not to get depressed these days.?ÿ Got a Kimber 1911 for Father's Day and have only been able to look at it ????ÿ
(As a non USA participant in this Forum) I would have assumed that ammo in the USA is entirely resourced and manufactured entirely within. Is there some international ingredient that is affecting things, or is it just the case that national demand exceeds national capacity to produce?
Hijack alert..
You're going to love that kimber. I carry the custom two. It's a bit heavy for daily carry but I'm used to it and it shoots smooth as butter. It's the only semiautomatic I own that didnt need any work to be perfect. I was going to drop in an ambidextrous safety (I'm left-handed) but the stock is intuitive and easy.

It's the Nightstar so the 5" model which is a little big for carry but it has the aluminum frame so it's much lighter.?ÿ I love the way it feels just haven't had a chance to get anything through it. I really wanted the Sig 1911 but there weren't any to be found at the time.?ÿ ?ÿ
