😮

Based on a couple of recent posts that started out or turned political, we have a new P&R forum available for use. In order to view and post there, you have to request access and agree to the terms here: https://rpls.com/request-politics-access/

There's no other way to access it.

It is moderated, but not as heavily as the rest of the forums.

P&R posts are not available to the public. They are not accessible to anyone that has not been approved for access.

Posts in the P&R forum will NOT appear in any of the feeds (e.g. Recent Posts) unless you have submitted your request for access and have been approved.

If you have any other questions, please ask them here.

Request access here: https://rpls.com/request-politics-access/

🤓 Thanks to everyone that has already requested access! I had something similar setup in the previous format, but only a couple of folks took me up on it. Crossing my fingers for a successful and pain-free experience. 🙂

I hope that everyone who participates will accept that it is unlikely that they are going to change any minds - if those minds hold deeply entrenched beliefs - which means everybody. At least not in the short term. Make your point as best you can and let others make theirs. And always remember that the first one to invoke "Hitler" loses.

I have been asked many times over the years, mostly on Facebook, why I never post anything political. The reason is simple: No one in the history of mankind has ever changed anyone else's mind about their politics on social media.

Okay, perhaps it has actually happened a time or two, but it's mostly an echo chamber.

I will admit to changing my mind when I've acquired new data to surmise, but it has never involved social media. It has ALWAYS been because of respectful, kind discussion and factual information introduced of which I was previously unaware.

@wendell

Most people are capable of changing their mind based on new data. I think as long as we can keep this to sharing sources of information so people can attempt to process what they think is or isn't happening this will be beneficial.

The RPLS website keeps forgetting that I'm logged in. Since my faith in the security of the website is weakened by this, I'm not willing to check any boxes calling for me to take on additional responsibility for posts purportedly made by me.

Keeping you logged in has everything to do with cookies being stored by your browser on your computer. Also, if you are being greeted when visiting the website with a privacy box, and you deny it, you will not stay logged in, because you are effectively denying cookies being set by your browser. Not having a cookie set by your browser would actually enhance security, not degrade it -- more annoying, yes; less secure, no.

If your browser is forgetting your logins without you deleting history or cookies, several factors could be causing this issue:

  1. Cookie Settings: Your browser might be configured to delete cookies upon closing. Check your cookie settings to ensure that cookies are allowed and not set to clear when the browser is closed.
  2. Browser Extensions: Some extensions or add-ons can interfere with cookie storage. Try disabling extensions one by one to see if the problem persists.
  3. Privacy Settings: High privacy settings may block cookies or require you to log in every time. Ensure that your privacy settings are not overly restrictive.
  4. Corrupted Profile: Your browser profile might be corrupted. You can try creating a new user profile to see if this resolves the issue.
  5. Software Conflicts: Security software or other applications running on your computer may be interfering with your browser's ability to store cookies.
  6. Browser Updates: Ensure your browser is up to date, as bugs or issues in older versions might cause problems with login persistence.
  7. Incognito or Private Mode: If you're using incognito or private browsing mode, your logins won't be saved after you close the session.
  8. Browser Reset: If all else fails, resetting your browser to its default settings can help resolve persistent issues.

Check these areas to troubleshoot the problem, and hopefully, you'll find a solution that works for you!

I have fairly defined political and religious opinions and I enjoy those conversations as well, but I'm going to very happily never specifically join any group focused on that.  You all have fun, though 🙂

i love politics.  To discuss politics or religion, you need to be tolerant of other persons view points.  I find some can and some cannot do this without flaming the other person.  I live with an elected official and cannot discuss politics with her.

Tipsy O'Neal may have said it best after another dram of Johnny Walker Black.  He is someone I would have liked to discuss politics with.
