I'm sorry to hear that. A horrible feeling to see it is gone.
Sunday morning I came around the corner to find a local dude packing up my base. I stared hard at him and he said, "Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you left it here for anyone to take if they wanted." Seriously.?ÿ
I knew better than to set it up where I did, but it was the best location for the project I was working on. Bad thing is whoever has it probably is figuring out they can't sell it and will probably throw it in the trash. That is a terrible sickening feeling.
??As a matter of fact I did. And by the way take THAT!?
There's a ring on the side of a t3, where we could potentially attach a lock. I've got a t3 on order. Should be here next week. I think i should attach things to something, so that theft will take more time, and that tends to discourage thiefs.
This kind of thief, often has drug habits. So, they are creatures of opportunity. So, make our "offerings" harder than other offerings.?ÿ
I'm alarm shopping too. The kind that are loud.

Given the cost of the unit, get equipment INSURANCE
GPS tracking device attached to the receiver should help in recovery if stolen.

@david-wood he is sayin take THAT, as in take (THIS SMACK UPSIDE THE HEAD)??or something similar.
The Police have a lot of sources of information that you don't. They check Pawn shops regularly for stolen stuff. Get ahold of them for sure. You sure your insurance doesn't cover it?
Any time I've checked into inland marine insurance coverage it only covers theft if someone breaks into your locked vehicle and steals it.

Rubber snakes can help. Especially rattle snakes, down on the ground, near where the stake is, where the chain connects with padlock. It tends to help the would-be thief have something to think about. They don't see it until after they are within range.?ÿ

@david-wood Out of curiosity, did you have the base movement detection (or whatever it's called) turned on??ÿ I always loved that feature of my Javad base.
Its probably illegal for the obvious reasons, but try setting out a bogus non functional unit after coating it in clear oleoresin(mace)
That's at least a good retribution and isn't lethal like loading it with C4 and setting a Mercury switch after capping in........
?ÿ
Man that is a huge pita.
Sorry they stole your gear.
Any luck finding it??ÿ Years ago, my truck got broken into in the parking lot of Stanger Surveying in Tyler.?ÿ I eventually got everything except my camera back, even my HP48.?ÿ If it doesn't get thrown in the trash, someone may turn it in. That's how I got my 48 back.?ÿ An FBI agent was out for his morning run and found it in a ditch.?ÿ He turned it in to Tyler PD and they got it back to me.
Why would anyone leave a pile of gold bars in plain view without some sort of security guarding it?
I??m certainly not gonna smack a total stranger upside the head, that??s what guns are for. Besides you might hurt your hand. ?????ÿ
Assuming he pays his "guard" $10 an hour, and if he got away with this for 100 business days, using a 1.3 multiplier to estimate the cost of an employee he saved ($10)(1.3)(8hours)(100days) = $10,400.?ÿ I don't know the details, but in many areas in the US, you could get away with leaving your base without it getting stolen.?ÿ It depends where you are working, and how obvious its placement is.?ÿ I can't say I would want to take the risk, but I understand why it was done.?ÿ I may leave an Emlid RS2 somewhere over hiring someone to watch it.?ÿ?ÿ
Also, the aggravation of hiring someone to sit there for $10/hour... priceless.
?ÿ
I don't want to jinx it but around here I've never heard of surveying equipment getting stolen on the job. The trucks have been broken into and had a hammer drill stolen (shouldn't have been in the truck anyway).?ÿ
But yeah paying someone to just stand and guard the base isn't really feasible.?ÿ

Hire a college student intern.
Min wage in the beginning, school them up and create new Surveyors, hell yeah!!
