Matt Smith here in S.E. Louisiana. Just joined the forum and thought I would introduce myself. I am also looking for information to study for the LA two hour state exam if anyone has any information or suggestions? I am currently licensed and would like to get licensed in Louisiana.

Welcome Matt. I believe there are few members here that hail from LA and could probably help you out with any specific questions you may have.

And there are also a number of us that apparently know absolutely everything about anything and spend our time talking about all but surveying. Don't let the friendly chatter scare you away. This really is a gem of a site and one of the most helpful tools a surveyor might need. Hope you stick around.

Welcome to the site Matt!
The best list of the material to study for the exam is on the Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors website, (www.lsps.net)

The Home page lists the upcoming test dates and the deadline to have your application in the Board (www.lapels.com)

On the top bar, select "Education".

The "Education" page contains the education and work experience requirements needed to sit for the exam. Make sure you meet the education requirements before you start the application process. Scroll to the bottom of the page and there are 4 links.

The "Lapels Approved Courses" will open a pdf file that contains the surveying courses accepted by the Board.

The "Suggested References" link contains the information you asked about. Items A through I are the topics you will be tested on. Below that is a list of several references that are suggested as study material. While i suggest you review all of the references listed, I strongly suggest studying the "Compendium of Louisiana and Federal Laws Relating to Land Surveying" and "Legal Aspects of Boundary Surveying in Louisiana".

I'm sure the exam has changed since I took it. Someone recently asked me if I was allowed longer than 2 hours since we had to chisel our answers in a stone tablet. Good luck!

Welcome. The only Matt Smith I know is a psychiatrist. Is that you, Matt????

Just kidding. The Matt Smith I've known since he was in grade school lives somewhere like Maine and is a psychiatrist so I'm pretty certain he hasn't decided to drive hubs and hack through the swamps of Louisiana just for fun. He did start a garage band when he was about 14 so that alone qualifies him to possibly be a land surveyor.

Welcome, Matt. (sorry I have nothing witty to say, read Paden's posts for that sort of thing, Oh yeah, and I didn't mean to call you a "welcome matt")
