There is an ad on this site for "Allstate Land Surveying" offering land survey anywhere in the state of Florida for $275 and Elevation Certificates for $95.

The quality control within Allstate must be second to none.

I thought we just went over this issue!

I know times are tough and Wendell and Angel need every dime that they can get, but lets be reasonable.

For one thing most people looking for these services will never visit this site, and another is why give these "lowballers" a forum to p**s off the real surveyors who use this site for what it truly was intended for; a forum to trade ideas and knowledge amoung surveyors.

I used to like this site, but I will have to re-think that one.

Truly Pathetic!

probably not from the site but from google ads. regional surveyors pop up in mine. i doubt they would pay to advertise to a bunch of surveyors.

i agree that is cheap. but i try to run my own business and not worry about what others charge. if they can make money at $95 each, good for them.

Wow

It's just an ad. A paid-for ad. Don't you think you're overreacting?

I see no ads for anything other than equipment and software vendors.
If you are upset at google ads then you better stay off of the internet.

Uh, Something's Wrong Here

Why would a lowballer advertise to a group of surveyors? That makes no sense.

I've seen it too, but I'm in Florida. It's definitely a Google Ad ... not something Wendell can control (I think).

But now that I look at it, they seem to be using Wendell's Beerleg Icon ... hmmmm.

here is a dirty little secret about adwords ads - the owner has to pay for them every time someone clicks on it. if you really want to get back at the lowballer click on his ad. he has to pay for it and you are raising his overhead and theoretically raising his prices!

I'm curious if these are the same people who often run ads on Craigslist looking for contract survey crews.......

Ad for Contract Crew????

Um, we did not specifically request that ad. We display Google ads and that firm apparently had an ad targeted for sites with surveying-related content. The ads are also displayed based on your location and other criteria based on your particular browsing habits according to Google. So before you go off blaming us, it's not our fault. You'll need to talk to Google about that.

It also helps to be informed before making irrational decisions and accusations.

Intended by Wendell and thoughtfully provided by Wendell (and Angel).

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Maybe I'm old school, but you don't insult a man in his own house.

LOL

Hey, he's a lowballer! He's got no time to be creative.

haha....he (or she) isn't charged even 1¢ to come to this site, ask questions about surveying, and get answers in the blink of an eye. You can often read about things you were wondering about and come and go at will......and what: He is threatening to take his ball and go home? He pal.....you don't even have a ball to take. Wendell (along with that advertiser and some donors) provided the only equipment here.

As you can see, Wendell has no control over it. At this point sir, it would appear that you owe him and Angel an apology.

Look at both sides of this issue.

The original poster, makes his living surveying. The ad is for a basic fraud machine, in a general sense. The fraud machine hurts the original poster's business. And it APPEARS that the forum is getting finances from the fraud machine. I see the appearance of the conflict of interest here. I don't for sure know what is going on. I don't jump to conclusions. (Or try not to)

We should think it through. The Original Post was about thinking about it. So, he was not jumping to conclusions, but saying that his nerve had been tagged, and that is ok to talk about.

I think we should be open minded enough to discuss stuff like this.

IMHO, the State BOR's should be culpable for renewing licenses, of surveyors, who are total frauds. But that is for another time and place. Cheers. Carry on your regularly scheduled prejudices, opinions, and emotions! (I will!) Lighten up. It is ok to discuss this and other things. That's what a forum is all about.

Kris, You said that much more tactfully than my normal modus operandi.

I personally think an apology doesn't even start to be enough. However, in deference to Angel's delicate, sensitive constitution, I will not go into detailed aspersion of TTerhune's lack of couth.

Nuances

Right on Nate.

I looked at some of Tim's recent posts. He seems like a decent fella.

This is one of the problems with computer communications.

Some of the small nuances of meaning get lost.

"Nuances" ~ I know, right? (I even impressed myself with that word, I think I will take a dollar back out of the swear jar & treat myself to a beer).
