I'm connecting my Trimble TSC3 data collector to my iPhone 6 hotspot to do GNSS surveying. I can get the two to connect and begin a survey, but it's going in cycles of keeping connection for about 7-8 seconds, then losing it for 2 seconds (image below of it lost, red 'x' on the right side). Repeating that over and over. It does that with my iPhone 6 and a coworkers 6+, but it keeps a connection with my iPad and coworkers iPhone 4's and 5's.
Anyone experience this problem and know of a fix? I have not contacted our Trimble dealer yet.

i don't know about iPhones, we use a mifi mobile hotspot and have never had any connection issues.
That may be the route we go if this can't get fixed. Just tried it with a Mifi handheld (looks like a flip-phone but doesn't flip) and it worked fine.
One problem I have run into repeatedly with iPhones is the apostrophe that appears in the device name. On the phone, go to Settings > General > About > Name and simplify the name to a single word, no spaces or special characters. If that isn't it, I also recommend a MiFi. Yes, it is a separate device, but the battery life on the newer ones is fantastic and you can keep your expensive phone in your pocket.
Good suggestion Daniel. Our IT guys also said that as well as it maybe needing to be less than 8 characters. Made that change but still no dice.
Having same issues with samsung galaxy s6
As far as I know - smartphones, 3G and 4G and WIFI are not as reliable as a 2G phone connected by bluetooth.
The modem built into the TSC3 is the way most go though. (including me)
Right so you are Bluetooth teathering?
Between Apple and Trimble both trying to be so proprietary, I'm surprised you get connected at all. SHENANIGANS!
