We have recently had a couple issues arise with our Leica GPS. Our setup is GS14 base and rovers with a Satelline Easy Pro 35W repeater running at 25w.

There have been a few situations where we are receiving no radio signal (and thus unable to survey) at distances approximately 1-2 km from our base, but as we move out further, the radio signal appears again. It is as though we have "dead zones" in our radio range.

This problem seems to appear randomly and has happened on multiple sites, but it is intermittent (and therefore non repeatable), so it is very difficult to find a solution for.

The fact that it has happened on multiple sites makes me believe that interference from another radio source is not the cause.

I have talked to our supplier, and they are currently looking into the issue, but are also a bit baffled by it.

Does anyone have any ideas on what may be causing these issues??

What was the terrain like? It is possible if the terrain is undulating, that you were in a "shadow" close to the base and came out of it as you move away.

The terrain is pretty much dead flat. No more than a few metres rise/fall.

There has been a few patches of trees around, but generally the base and rover have both been out in the open.

Are you on 25k or 12.5K?

What data language (Leica 4G or RTCM3) are you running?

What GNSS are you tracking?

This is a VERY strange issue. I'm going to go out on a limb and think that this distance is irrelevant. I think that there is another issue that just coincides with shorter distances.

I was told that a firmware upgrade was needed to correct this.

The radio works fine over shorter distances, then will drop out over a range of mid range distances, but then come back in. It is like it has pockets of "dead zones".

The firmware was fully up to date when we bought the unit in May. Do you know if there has been any firmware updates since then?

I was told that there was but I did not need it since I use mine with GSM modem. There was a post recently about the firm update on here.
