Hello everyone!
I'm a GNSS hobbyist and I recently got my hands on a Leica GRX1200 GG Pro. I run a personal reference station at my house for fun and experimenting, and while I mostly use more modern "bare" receivers like the ZED-F9P or Quectel LG290P, I like to work with "real" equipment when I can.
I know this unit is a bit on the older side, so I may not be able to get very far (which is what happened with a Trimble NetR5), but I want to try! When I first powered the unit up it did get a lock (solid green track LED) incredibly quickly, within less than a minute, so I assume it has updated ME3 firmware. There are .m00 logs in the DBX folder as new as April 2018, so I imagine that's when it was taken out of production. It also had no trouble creating new logs with today's date, so presumably it does not have the WNRO problem that other older units have. The system firmware is 8.51, I'm not sure what the ME3 firmware is.
I was able to reset its IP address by creating the GetConfig.ini file, then modifying that to SetConfig.ini. I can FTP to it with no problems, but unfortunately the previous owners did not install the WebUI. I grabbed the grx1200_webs_en.zip file from MyWorld and deployed it per the documentation, but unfortunately it seems to be too new, I suspect it wants a version 9.x system firmware. So far I haven't had any luck finding other versions of that zip file to try loading, and Leica only has the one version on MyWorld. When I access this version in a browser, I only see the following error. It does show the date, time, uptime, and lock status correctly, though, which is confidence-inspiring.
I've been doing some digging around, here and elsewhere, and I think that my best bet is to find the CD-ROM (or at least the data) that was included with the GPS1200 units. According to the documentation I've found, there should be a copy of the website software on there. I haven't been able to track it down anywhere yet, to download or to purchase, but if anyone here has a copy, I would greatly appreciate it!
Right now my only means of configuring and accessing the unit is via the network interface and CF card, I have yet to track down an appropriate RS232 cable, and I suspect I should also get an RX1200 series controller, especially if I want to control data logging in the field.
Also - I don't suspect this is related, but it is interesting behavior that I have noticed - the power button doesn't seem to work for turning the unit off. The documentation states that I should be able to hold the power button for four seconds to turn the unit off, but that doesn't work for mine. I've taken a look inside and as far as I can tell, it's in good condition and the ribbon cable is connected properly, but I may try and reseat it. I haven't been able to test the power button to turn the unit on because it powers up as soon as it's plugged in.
Thanks very much in advance!
Regards,
John
If you have a rj45 and an ip address (and power), using a browser, you should be able to log into the interface - I take it you cannot. Not sure you need new fw (8.51 was stable). I recall upgrading from 8.51 to 9.x and did not have any problems and do not recall uploading any new web interface. There are some leica folks around that can help.
That's what I would have assumed as well, but according to the GRX1200 getting started guide (grx1200_gettingstarted_en.pdf), one has to explicitly install the web interface first. My unit didn't come with it pre-configured (when I tried to access it over HTTP, there was no response), until I installed the 9.x version from MyWorld, and now I get the above error. I did take a backup of the CF card before installing it, though, and I have successfully rolled back and tried installing it again, so I don't think I'm entirely stuck with the new (broken) version.
Hopefully those Leica folks are able to chime in and shed some light on the situation!
Alright, well I feel like quite a goofball. 🤪 Turns out on the MyWorld download page, there is a dropdown for version numbers - and 8.50 is in the list! With the web software! I pulled the zip and copied it over to the card, and the unit installed it successfully, so now I have a webUI I can access. It is complaining that there is a version mismatch, because there is - the system firmware is 8.51, the webUI is 8.50. I did not see an 8.51 webUI.
I am able to access the configuration pages with the default credentials of Admin/12345678, but I can only make some types of changes. I can change the site information - name, coordinates, antenna info. I can even change the password of the Admin user. But - if I try and access the firmware update page, the user management page, any of the network related settings, I get the error message "Access Denied Prohibited User".
I think I can do what I want to do with the unit from this point, but I feel like I'm frustratingly close to having it be "complete". I'm still hunting for the contents of that CD-ROM, because it's supposed to contain some sort of restore image that can kick this back to factory defaults.
Never installed the Webinterface myself, also used every time The RX1250XC and CF-Card for installing firmware. But here are maybe some general thoughts:
Like the upgrade instructions say "THE WEB INTERFACE FILE MUST BE LOADED TO THE RECEIVER AT THE
SAME TIME AS THE FIRMWARE. IN CASE OF SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE WEB INTERFACE, LOADING BOTH FILES AT THE SAME TIME WILL PREVENT THE USER LOOSING CONNECTION TO REMOTE INSTRUMENTS."
So Version 8.50 for firmware AND Webinterface.
THE NEXT IST ALL AT YOUR OWN RISK OF BRICKING EVERYTHING!!!
Here is some old Version V6.02 "GPS1200.zip" from some old Leica DVD. At GPS1200_Tools\GPS1200_Recovery there is some Recovery File for Version 6.02. I Added Recovery Instruction from Leica Totalstation (TPS). Maybe recovery for GPS works The same. BUT I NEVER TESTED THIS WITH GPS, AT YOUR OWN Risk!!!!
It also says "Do not use this procedure if the instrument can be restarted normally by turning it OFF and ON or by removing the battery."

Maybe try using Software "Leica Geo Office" to upload the firmware if you dont have RX1200 controller.
"Leica Geo Office 4.0 (ZIP)"

Upgrade as far as your "SW Maintenance End" in Myworld allows you also by reading the "System1200 Release Notes Smartworx" for each version available in MyWorld.
