I was looking at used Trimble Units (4700, 5700 & 5800's) do they all have internal storage for static observations or does one have to have a data collector connected like a TSC-1 or 2 or a Trimble Recon? Thanks.

yes, they all have internal capabilities to collect static. I have recently retired quite a few 4700's in place of TSC3's and R6' - R8's for this very reason. If you are interested in any of the 4700's feel free to contact me below. Trimble doesn't accept them as a trade in anymore so I truly just need to get rid of them.

My proposal is Trimble 5800, basically same as Trimble R8 mod.1 , if you look for used GPS receivers. I have R8 mod.1 w/ Recon w/Fast Survey, works fine without any trouble. Also you can use 5800 with many other collectors such as TSC , Ranger and so on, actual sometime I use my receiver with HTC Diamond for controller, I have installed SurvCe on board of the phone

It is true that 5800s have internal storage, but some of the early firmware versions did not permit the user to use it. I have two such units, no way to upgrade the firmware.. so I have to have a data collector plugged in at all times.

Buyer beware.. you may not get the functionality you expect.
