We have a Topcon HiperII system that is about 8 years old.?ÿ We run them with data collectors using Survey Pro,?ÿ version 6.4.1.19, which should be the newest.?ÿ My past experience and from the info supplied from a dealer I can't upgrade the firmware in the GPS receiver because I'm not using Topcon data collection software.?ÿ If I do upgrade the firmware, it just won't work, it goes autonomous.?ÿ When this happened I rolled back the firmware and it worked.

So not long after the rollover, but I'm not sure if it was immediately after the rollover a couple of weeks later I started having problems.?ÿ The units would stop using, and sometimes even tracking Glonass, and then it started dropping GPS birds also.?ÿ A reboot of both the data collector and the GPS unit will fix it.?ÿ Sometimes it will work fine for two days, sometimes I'm rebooting twice a day.?ÿ

Any ideas if its the week roll over or are the units on the way out??ÿ We have a new system coming but I'd like to keep using the old system as needed.

You will need to update your firmware to correct the clock setting from 1999. To correct the other issue I believe you need to purchase legacy mode.

Thanks Lee, that's what I figured.?ÿ I'm still not 100% sure its the week roll over problem.?ÿ It was used all day yesterday without a problem.?ÿ I hate the idea of having to pay for a legacy file.?ÿ Seems like a way to screw you over for not having a Topcon data collector.?ÿ Several years ago that was what Topcon was pushing was Rangers with Survey Pro, until Trimble bought them out.

Legacy Mode came in with the GR-5 and the HiPer V and should not be needed on the HiPer II as I understand it.?ÿ The only difference I see purchasing the Legacy Mode makes in the receiver OAF is to set the RTK Rover position update rate to the default 10 Hz for the receiver, which with the HiPer V and GR-5 units have set to "Disabled".?ÿ The HiPer II has this value set in the OAF so there is no need to purchase the option.

That said, I do not know the answer to the question about the setup working after the GPS Week Rollover.?ÿ We are seeing some issues.?ÿ People running an all-Topcon setup with Magnet Field as their software solution have to both do the firmware update AND also update Magnet to the latest version 5.2.1?ÿ -?ÿ Simply doing the firmware update did not fix the date problem for whatever reason.?ÿ Receivers that had the firmware updated being used with a version of Magnet earlier than 5.2.1 still put incorrect date/time stamps on the RTK shots in the raw data.
