I??m having great difficulty in calculating the effective radius of a line at latitude and along a given azimuth. 144 mi long, WGS84?ÿ
looking for an online calculator or spreadsheet. I??ve spent too much time with the algebra and for some reason I get impossible values. Calculating R(N) and R(M) just isn??t working today.
midpoint:
Latitude 39.79770,?ÿazimuth ?ÿ265.39386
I get 6386737.812, computed in excel, checked on calculator.?ÿ
Here are the formulas I used, from a slide I made in 2012 for a presentation at Trimble Dimensions
and a chart I made:

I added the results of the Radii of Curvature in Meridian and Prime Vertical to the results of this online calculator which can get you part of the way there.
Latitude 39 47 51.72
Azimuth 265 23 37.9
Radius in Prime Vertical: 6386901.672 m
Radius in Meridian: 6361593.227 m
Gaussian mean radius: Rg = 6374234.889 m
Radius at Azimuth: 6386737.812
