When I lived in Dallas (Oregon) and was running Monument Land Surveying, I paid for an ad in the local yellow pages. The following year, I was starting to move more toward web development, so I told them I didn't want the ad, so I didn't pay for it. Apparently, they've never removed the ad, and are still printing the phonebooks, because I still get phone calls once in awhile. I've asked the last couple of callers where they found me and they both said "in the new phonebook". 😀

Anyway, all that to say that I always tell them to call you. Now what will I tell them?!

Good for you, I am happy you survived to be able to say that you are retired.

I can guarantee you I will loose no sleep when I walk away from this poor paying profession and spend my days reading books and fishing. I often regret going in this direction but the die has been cast a long time ago and I have crossed the Rubicon.

Over the years I have met many great surveyors on this board and its predecessors.?ÿ None finer than you Tyler.?ÿ My only regret is that we never met in person.

May you and your wife find activities to be passionate about in your retirement.?ÿ I will pass on your web site address to other surveyors.

Speaking of phone calls, every once in a while, I'll get someone calling on my cell for a survey. When they tell me the address, it doesn't sound right for Oregon. So I ask what city. Redding. Huh? I'm not licensed in CA - well, not for a long time. Where'd you find me? Online or in the phone book (I forget which).?ÿ The caller's area code is usually 530 but with cell phones and number portability, the number doesn't really mean much anymore, and sometimes people from out of state need surveys here in Oregon.

So, I look up Land Surveyors in Redding online and find my company with the right cell number including area code (strange), the right web page, but the address is 4155 Oasis Rd, Redding, CA 96003 . It takes me a little while, but I eventually find out that that's the address of SECO Manufacturing in Redding. Yep, the company that makes surveying accessories. I have no idea how that happened. I've tried to get it corrected, but to no avail.

For the past year or so, ever since I started winding down, I've usually been referring clients that have needs bigger than I feel I can handle to one of the other Land Surveying only companies here in Corvallis unless they need engineering services. I'll not name them here, but they are a reputable company. Call me if you need more info.

In spite of this retirement announcement Tyler was at the PLSO convention week before last, attending seminars and collecting PDHs. So I'd guess that his withdrawal is not complete, at least not yet.?ÿ?ÿ

You and other Oregon surveyors know Tyler far better than I, but in my conversations with him, I noticed that he has a well-developed intellectual curiosity.

Some surveyors just gotta learn regardless of the status of their licensure!?ÿ All the best Tyler.?ÿ

I've saved one 2-1/2"x30" aluminum survey monument (with cap) for my ashes, to be planted somewhere in Oregon. I haven't told my kids yet.
