Hello everyone. I am in need of some help in determining a fair price for this. This is my dads Total Station, he's been retired for some years. He's had a few strokes and is unable to work and this is just sitting in the basement. I am having a hard time finding much information on the unit including a fair price.?ÿ

I'd very much appreciate any input and we're open to offers. The case and unit I believe to be pristine but I will check into it more tomorrow and try to get some pictures if anyone is interested.?ÿ

I am located in Danville PA, 17821.

@beartow I think I did, but I wasn't sure if it was a new or old posting or accurate in price.

@beartow I would say that is way over priced. I would expect that TS to be worth 750-1000 tops.

@stlsurveyor Yeah, more than likely. I think it's pretty ancient judging from the battery config.

@beartow I don't know a thing about it except it was a top of the line model at the time, and yes it's fairly older now. I would suspect it's value might have to do with how it compares to current models?

Reflectorless adds value above a lot of old units, but I would check very carefully whether any data collectors will work with it. What I read said it records internally and can dump RS232 serial to a computer, or write to a PCMCIA card.?ÿ Sounds old.?ÿ And of course if it has been sitting around a long time the batteries will need recelled.

If it uses RS232 then better have a PC with either win2000 or XP as an OS. I had a bit of a problem finding drivers or correct configuration to get data through RS232 via serial-USB cables running on Win7/10. It was a hit/miss kind of thing. It would run properly 1 day then just refuses to download anything the next. PCMCIA? Good luck with that.

I purchased a similar used Nikon instrument two years ago, in 2018, for $1200. Mine is not reflectorless. The batteries still work and I can find nothing wrong with it.

@jt50 I believe it uses a CF card, isn't that pretty standard still?

@jt50 Actually I guess it doesn't use a CF but apparently there's an adapter to use one?

@bill93 Thanks, what do you think a good starting price to ask would be?

Price depends on finding somebody who can put it to good use, and what else they see available. Ebay has a lot of old total stations offered for $250 to $500.?ÿ Those advertising reflectorless are numerous from $800 to $1500 or $2000. I haven't compared them for accessories and condition.

I'm not in the market for something like that myself, as I have an old Topcon to play with and don't do real work with it.

The price would depend upon the condition of the instrument and if it is in need of a cleaning, lubejob and adjusted by your regular tune up shop that runs around $200 up depending upon what is required.

A tight gun that give constant great closures is worth more than one that has some slop.

Also there is the specs of the instrument as in what is it rated as 1sec, 2sec, 3sec, 5sec or 6sec, etc.

I am not a Nikon user and I wish you good luck in your quest.
