As near as I can figure, it goes something like this:
there's rapists
then there's child molesters..
used car salesmen,
then survey equipment salesmen.
I've tried for at least six weeks to get a quote on a new data collector. One outfit said they couldn't help me because they weren't dealers for the software I wanted.
I emailed a request for a quote from a fairly reputable outfit...all it got me was on their "Weekly Special" e-list.
Last Thursday I happened by a buddy's office at the same time a salesman was visiting. When I asked for a price for a specific model with specific software, his reply was, "How long are you going to own it?"....wtf?
I gave him my email and he emailed me the brochure pdfs that are readily available on the internet, with no prices. What a schmuck.
Does anybody know where I can drop a chunk of change for a DC from someone who isn't suffering from cranial rectumitis?

thnx
Heck, Paden, in Florida the sales people will beat your door down if they even think you might be thinking of making a new purchase!
Have a great week!

Wonder what would happen to the current per-diem rates if Daniel were to hook up with Paris Hilton?;-)
The good salesmen are all focused on machine control. Contractors are where the money is, such as there is money to be spent.
Hayes Instruments, hands down.
I buy 95% of my equipment and supplies from them.
Maine Technical Source, Woburn MA branch.....ask for Jim Bosworth (tell I sent ya)
Or check with Gary Rosen at Carlson, he'll set you straight...
Per Diem....
It does make one wonder how rich they would get...if the *Sheratons* and Paris Hilton hooked up...
Surveyors might not be able to afford the rate!
2 things: It's Shearon and I wouldn't touch Ms. Hilton with a 10 pole pole. 😉
If you buy from Hayes- have them throw in one of the REALLY BIG mirrors. 😉
A little far North for ya, mebbe....GPS Alaska, Accupoint, or Surveyors Exchange all out of Anchorage Alaska. I bought a GPT 1003 from Portland Precision in Oregon ...

I have to agree with you. All equipment salesmen are at heart salesmen. None are aligned with your interest, only selling equipment. They sure as heck don,t know how to use it. Most surveyors will get walked on cause you will only be buying one piece of equipment and then never doing more business for the next few years. Thats my experience, if they lose your sale so what. We even went to the regional sales manager before and they didn't care either. I am sure there must be those who had a good experience since they are still in business. So good luck and keep us posted on how it went.
Thanks, everyone!
It's been a long day....just now getting back to my flat screen.
I've gotten a few good leads and talked with some of the more hopeful folks after my post. Maybe I'll take back what I said......nah, but i might rearrange the list. ha.
Thanks, everyone.
Thanks, everyone!
Topcon, Trimble, leica, DC-50, allegro, used, new, refurbish?????????????
Yes, most the sales folks have singed big ol contracts with a specific dealer so you have to find the right one for what your looking for. Luckily in our neck of the woods are sales reps and supply companies will get you whatever you need when you need it. Our rep stops in at least once a month. (Just don't break it because they laid off the tech support staff 8 months ago)
