I am trying to find some steel tapes that are in metric. I am looking for non-coated steel tapes that are incremented in base units past the zero mark and the last meter. I have found that Lufkin still offers some of these but are only in feet. These would work but it would be nice not to have to worry about making a conversion mistake. The plans are in metric.
We are trying to get some supplies for doing precise industrial work. Any help will be appreciated.
I would try some European survey suppliers.
Need to find one with no coating... the nyclad will not work. It is very strange that I cannot find one from any European websites. I guess these types of tapes are just becoming a thing of the past ???
Is there a reason you need a non-coated tape, does the risk of the coating out weight the risk of a conversion error?
Hope this helps...

Try precision laser in ambridge, pa. I don't have their contact info on me, but google them. Talk to Andy. When I was in there last I bought a metric pocket tape and he asked me if I needed a metric steel tape. Very nice guys to deal with.
The conversion would always open you up to a mistake... the metal of the tape needs to be fully exposed. So.. temperature of work environment can directly affect tape without resistance and insulation of nylon coating.
It is just funny that there are only a few out there to purchase. Maybe just a sign of the times and technology.
Good source on the ebay and Precision Laser. I will look at these and call. I appreciated all the information.
I have one that I got from CST I believe, many moons ago.
If you can read French, it's probably an on-the-shelf stock item in France.
Those French numbers are tricky:-D
Yes... those French numbers are tricky 😀 ... and especially when you have to use French numbers and metric at the same time 😀
I don't know why, but we have one. Still in decent shape if you'd like it. (don't think the bossman would miss it)
Don't know if they are in stock but at least metric tapes are listed

It appears that we have one Lufkin Nubian Steel tape in stock. It's been on the shelf for 14 years. Don't know if I could lay my hands on it or not.
Just do what everybody else did when the big "metrication" push was on about 30 years ago. Convert it on your plans and then use a regular tape.
>So.. temperature of work environment can directly affect tape without resistance and insulation of nylon coating.
Even with insulation, it will get to the ambient temperature, just a trifle slower than bare metal. Like maybe twice the settling time? I would be surprised if that was really a problem unless your ambient is changing very fast.
