I would like some input from surveyors that have gone or are going to Trimble Dimensions. Is this a worthwhile conference or a large expensive sales pitch for Trimble? Thanks, Jp
I've been to a number of state shows (MD, VA, PA, NJ), ACSM, ASPRS, ESRI User Conference, Trimble Dimensions, Leica's scanning user conference (pre-Hexagon Conference days) and Intergeo; Trimble Dimensions is my favorite of the bunch.
Don't expect it to be like a state conference, with 4 & 8 hour classes that are aimed at fulfilling continuing education requirements. It is fast paced, with one hour sessions that fall into two categories; either pitches for Trimble products/solutions or sample projects from Trimble users. Both will focus on using leveraging Trimble products to service different business areas.
The typical attendee is a business owner, survey group leader or senior manager who works in business development and it is really designed to provide a quick exposure to survey and survey related markets you may not be currently serving and might want to explore developing further once you get home.
If you decide to go, drop me an email - I'll most likely be there.
I agree with James Fleming. Trimble Dimensions has been one of the most exciting and fast paced meetings I have attended. You will have the opportunity to meet and interact with industry leaders.
Maybe be could have a meeting of beer leggers and have a beer.
I have been to all of them, and I don't consider it to be a Trimble sales pitch (although there is inevitably some of that, but not blatant). I have always found the conference to be very useful. Yes, it is expensive, but there is a lot of content, and they feed you well.
I am presenting two sessions (I think, I only got approval back for one so far, twice):
1) Astro Observations with a Trimble S6-I will be doing some comparisions against a T2 and a T3, as well as presenting results and methods
2) Geometric Reductions to Distances-reducing measured distances to mark-to-mark, ellipsoidal, grid, etc and how to compare EDM versus GPS correctly
I'll be there, because I am going to win Trimble Lindsays contest. How you ask? Because I am awesome like that.
Thanks for all the great input! Jp

Plus (if it's the kind of thing that interests you) my experience is that Trimble folks are the "drinkingist" of the big three manufacturers 😀
