PLSO Conference SHELBY

Are you sitting on a stand this year?

How time has flown since 2004 conference @ Bend and dinner with Scott & Lady Dee...7 years have simply flown!

Yep, I attended a couple classes, taught a couple classes and will be attending more classes all the way through Friday afternoon. Hope to see some more familiar faces. Feel free to hunt me down. I might even have some goodies on hand...

Once again, I have to say that the PLSO has far exceeded my expectations for a conference. I've not been to better conferences, ever. Not even on the national level.

Granted, I don't attend every year. But of the 7 or 8 regional conferences and 5 or 6 national conferences I've attended throughout my career, those of the PLSO variety have all been far ahead of the rest.

At the lunch meeting, with what seemed like all 500-and-some attendees in the room, I was given the honor to make a quick announcement to everyone about the success and friends we've made here at BeerLeg.com. It was exciting and something I've never done before, but amazingly, I managed to blurt something out, unrehearsed, without peeing my pants.

At the scholarship auction tonight, I found myself bidding on a new copy of the BLM manual with signatures of 12 people apparently involved in this new version (sorry if that's not totally correct, I only caught part of the announcement). After my last bid of $350, I caved. It ultimately sold for $500. Even though I didn't win, the bidding war was a blast (my first time) and the auctioneer made it a lot of fun. My better half was there with me and that made it all even more enjoyable.

We got to hang out and talk to Shelby Griggs, Scott Freshwaters, Joe Ferguson, Jered McGrath, John Minor and many others. And, in some cases, their better halves were there as well. I couldn't possibly name everyone I had the opportunity to chat with, but I appreciate every word with everyone. What a blast it was just to be there, but most of all, to hang out with people that felt like life-long friends. This is what makes BeerLeg.com all worthwhile.

Cheers to all my friends in Survey Land. I'm excited more now than ever to meet more of you fine folks across the country and the world. 🙂

<--- Better half. Although I think he's the better half!! 🙂

I concur with Wendell! I am excited too!! I look forward to the day that we can go to each and every convention and meet you all and give you goodies to take home.

And... I am so proud of him for getting up and speaking in front of 500+ people, telling them all about Beerleg! Whataman!!!

I had a ball last night meeting the guys and bidding on a few things! I got a bit nervous when Wendell was bidding on that signed BLM book. There was also a map there signed by the late Captain Phil of "Deadliest Catch". I wanted that!!! (darn!) I wound up winning two very old Plumb Bobs and a hand painted sunflower mirror.

I think we all won a thing or two in the auction. Shelby won LIVE CRABS. Poor crabs!! Their gooses are cooked once they get to his house!! Shelbys wife won a really pretty painting. She is a very nice lady to chat with! She and I were discussing the topic of how Shelby and Wendell both whipped out their plumb bobs to make sure the Christmas trees were lined up straight. Wendell even did this to me with our FAKE tree in Tucson! Sheesh! 😛

The question is who else out there on Beerleg has done this same thing?? 😉

Here's a few pics I took. I was invited at the last minute and I didn't even think to take my camera. Next time I will. My favorite pic is the last one below. 🙂

The two very old and very heavy plumb bobs & hand painted mirror I won at the auction.

PLSO Booth

This is actually a sticker. There were several of these stuck to the carpet at the convention.

This "sign" was in front of the OIT booth. I thought it was great!!!

Great to hear the PLSO Conference was good. I hope our man Frank Hardt's presentation went well for you all.

The BLM 2009 Manual of Surveying Instructions was a limited edition, signed by all 12 BLM State Office Cadastral Chiefs, Bob Dahl the 2009 Manual Editor, Don Buhler the National Cadastral Chief. The BLM signed 50 Manuals, and have made one available for each State to auction off by the Professional Societies to benefit surveying scholarships. It was a lot of signing, but a great thing we did. I heard $540 was winning price last night.

Alaska Auction will be February 23 at our evening awards/social event. Bob Dahl and Don Buhler will be venturing north of 60 for our conference. Everyone is welcomed, and we will show you how we do a good conference up here.

Wendell, you are 3 hours away, come on up and I will give you another 3 minutes of fame. You can crash at my house if you want.

Northern,

I am seriously considering your generous offer! What would it cost for me to get into the conference? Plus, I don't want to be a burden on you... we could actually stay somewhere, but funds are somewhat limited.

What a great offer and great way to meet some more BeerLeg friends! 🙂

Wendell, I sent you an email... No igloos, we have a very nice domicile.

@Angel the weather could either be wonderfully warm or bitterly cold. I have been attending the Survey Conventions since 1974, the same week of February, and can recall many occasions of both. Be prepared for wicked cold, and rejoice if it is not.

Anchorage's "Fur Rendezvous" is about the same time. We are the only place where you might see people riding a Ferris Wheel in -20F and having fun. Then there is the softball games played on snowshoes and you have to drink a beer at each base..... Oh, and a good time to buy some fur...

It was a pleasure to meet and talk with both of you. I too love the auction but things just went too high for me. I did however get a nice Navajo bracelet for Jean and I's up coming anniversary.

Monday morning and trying to get back up to speed in the office, left home on Tuesday and came home Saturday.

Met many folks in Salem that post on here regularly, Angel and Jered McGrath for the first time, saw Joe Ferguson, BUT never got a chance to chat, I think I did talk to most other posters at least briefly. Too bad we didn't have an "official" gathering.

Spent a couple of hours one on one with Wendell and David Souza (his business partner), they will be building a web site for my company, very excited to see that happen!

12 PDH's in the bag and a good time visiting with folks.

I only spent around $120 on the auction, BUT I scored on FOUR live crab delivered to my doorstep, $45!
