For anyone interested, there is a nice reprint of A.C. Mulford's Boundaries and Landmarks available on Amazon for a reasonable price.

Boundaries and Landmarks

I received my copy a few weeks ago. It is a nice reprint. Mine is 89 pages, so I assume it is a complete reprint.

I thought I would share for us younger surveyors that need to add it to our library.

Thr bookseller has been flooded with thousands of Asian " scanning mill " reprints.
Sometimes it is public domain material others times it is ignoring copyright protection.

Curious about the country of origin...India?

Personally, I would not buy one because of unfair trade.

I have a pdf of the book that I downloaded from Google Books some years ago. I believe it is in the public domain.

I have a PDF of it somewhere also.

The copies I bought were published in Lexington, Kentucky on January 31, 2015.

Many of these reprints are being subsidized from Amazon.

These would be a fine giveaway at the annual convention in lieu of the usual cheap bags, pens, etc.

I recall reading online (either on this forum or Reddit) that someone received a book from amazon that was printed the day it was ordered. The date of printing is typically on the page with copyright info.

Already book vending machines are popping up (a Pasadena, CA bookstore has one) that print on demand. I don't recall if they were only in the public domain or the company had a distribution deal with various publishers.

I think a smart entrepreneur will start installing these in airports and train stations and make a fortune. People still like to read without killing their eyes. I have tried reading stuff on my phone and can't do it like I can with a book.

That is interesting. As a former printer and bookseller in my younger life, the technology to do that astounds me.
I guess that could be the future and if you are an Amazon stockholder that would be rewarding.
I know various enterprises are pulling public domain books from libraries and publishing for resell. When personal computers erupted on the scene there was a concern people would read less. But the complete opposite happened. Amazon saw this and capitalized on the trend.
I knew someone in New Orleans in the 1970s who bought an old offset printing press at the Goodwill store and started reprinting a few public domain books on New Orleans history long out of print. He did ok with them selling in local book stores.
One was on the Creole Slave Songs by G W Cable and the other was a Creole dictionary by Lafcadio Hearn.
I ran into him a few years ago and asked if he still published them. He said "no". The Univ. of Texas approached him and bought the rights. He thought it was odd since they were in the public domain but took money.

I found an actual copy of the book on Amazon last year, $0.01 plus shipping. There are still a few copies out there.

I went back and looked at my receipt, and it is indeed a print to order book. The print date is the date of my order.

Very interesting.

I guess this may be a fully automated process.
Amazon receives the order. The sku is sent to a server that retrieves the pdf and prints/binds as fast as you can say Jiminy Cricket.
It is placed on a belt to shipping and sent. Probably don't need a human until it is put on the truck.
Next the will the Amadrone drop it at your door.;-)
