I am always on the hunt for additions to my library. I have my eye on a few books that Don Wilson has written, just looking for good deals, as I was fortunate to find a few additions to the library over the past few weeks, so I have exhausted my "extra" funds for the moment.

I saw that Mr. Wilson has a book entitled Easements and Reversions. It appears to be an older book, and I am wondering if his newer book,
Easements Relating to Land Surveying and Title Examination, that I already have, is a "second edition", and maybe more expanded.

I think I would like a copy for my library, but the one copy I found in a very quick search was around $180 or so, way out of my price range for right now.

If anyone has any information on this book, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
Jimmy

Jimmy

My 2013 copy of the latter states on the back cover "Easements Relating to Land Surveying and Title Examination is the most up-to-date reference that succinctly and incisively covers easements and reversions, written for land surveyors and title examiners."

It makes no mention of his book "Easements and Reversions". Whichever, possessing a copy of both wouldn't be a crime.

Thanks Paden.

My wife bought me the most recent book, along with a copy of the Curt Brown Chronicles two years ago for Christmas. I've been too busy to sit down and read much from any books in a while, except for reference on a particular subject or situation. I do want to add it to my ever growing collection.

I believe this is correct, that Easements Relating to Land Surveying and Title Examination is essentially a second edition of the earlier book of which I have a copy... somewhere...

I hold the opinion that you can never have too many books.

I see both titles here: http://www.landboundary.com/booksbydonwilson.html

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like used book prices have skyrocketed in the last decade or so. What I used to be able to pick up for $30 or $40 seems to be well over $100. Especially true for first editions.

Tom,

I see it listed there, but I cannot see where to add it to the cart. I've emailed Mr. Wilson, and I'll see if he responds. This is where I learned about the book.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Same with new book prices, too. And sadly, such prices may well put such books out of the reach of potential new blood in the profession.

I buy most of my books from ebay, abe books, or albris. I rarely pay more than $20 for my books. I did purchase a Buckner book, and a Mikhal (sp) book on adjustments over the holidays. I paid about $50 or so each for those, but I wanted them pretty bad.

Many of the ones I buy aren't the most recent versions, but the material is still relevant in almost all of the cases. I do have a good many of the old ICS surveying books that are just cool, but not to practical in today's world of surveying.

You can visit the Law Library and download (for free) a PDF of the Easements chapter from a national encyclopedia such as CJS or American Jurisprudence or treatises such as Tiffany Real Property. Some states have state-specific encyclopedias and treatises. Also if your State has easement specific statute sections the annotated codes are useful too.

Easements and Reversions is a great reference and good for educational purposes also - very clear and easy to understand.

Back in 2014 Herbert W. Stoughton, PhD, PE, PLS, CP published a very detailed review of Easements Relating to Land Surveying and Title Examination.

You can find that review in the October 2014 issue of Lines & Points, the publication of Professional Land Surveyors of Wyoming.

A PDF of that magazine should be found at http://plsw.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/25-4Oct.pdf
beginning on page 15.

If the link does not work, start at plsw.org, then Downloads > Lines & Points Magazine > then the last issue of 2014.

Thanks for all the comments. I found that the New Hampshire Land Surveyors Association has a very good selection of books for sale, with this being one of them.

I have found this book to be of considerable value- especially when it comes to keeping an objective mindset and the importance of perseverance when gathering and evaluating evidence.

I will. I found an old, first edition of his book, Interpreting Land Records on Albris yesterday for $29.69 from Goodwill Books. "Forensic Procedures for Boundary and Title Investigation" is definitely on my list.

Wow, that's a great price for "Interpreting Land Records". Also on my list.
