I for one would add Hoyt Axton
?ÿ
I agree 100%. A local radio station has been playing a lot of Hoyt Axton's music lately and when he hits those deep notes it just rumbles the dust off the rafters. And his lyrics... written from life. Hard living. Got to see him live in 1980 at the local high school auditorium. Great show and man he was funny.?ÿ
I see Levon Helm, an obvious standout because of being the lead vocals on most of the songs, But I think Rick Danko had a better more melodic voice, and Richard Manuel had an amazing range.
They ignored completely the first female country music star to sell a million records.?ÿ Patsy Montana.
Rubye Rose Blevins?ÿ(October 30, 1908 ?? May 3, 1996),[2]?ÿknown professionally as?ÿPatsy Montana, was an American?ÿcountry music?ÿsinger, songwriter and actress. Montana was the first female country performer to have a million-selling single with her signature song "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart", and is a member of the?ÿCountry Music Hall of Fame.

They are only doing pop singers, but the cross over great singers like Bocelli should make the list if they mean "great singers" and where the heck is Tennessee Ernie Ford.
And why does Robert Smith get two slots??ÿ
Can I get one of those slots for B.J. Thomas?
JA, PLS, SoCal
Certainly this isn't a list about the greatest voices of all time. Ozzy is a terrible singer with a terrible voice but he is great! Kurt Cobain has a great voice but his signing is far from good.?ÿ ?ÿAnd no Steven Tyler or Ronnie James Dio?? 2 of the greatest rock voices of all time.?ÿ?ÿ
Typical RS BS list.
Clearly Nat King Cole was the greatest voice ever to sing songs. I??m not sure if he??s on that list, if not it??s not worth the paper it??s printed on.
I quit counting how many names I didn't know at a bit over 30 but I was chuffed to see Umm Kulthum listed. I caught a documentary on PBS about her years ago and spent a bit tracking down CDs. She was Egyptian, daughter of a rural singer, and became huge in the Arabic world. Very emotive.?ÿ
If I'm working on a tedious task, I'll usually listen to instrumental music or non-English singers. Harder to get distracted by the lyrics.
how many here know what the number one song of 2022?
"Heat Waves", the 2020 single by British indie-pop band Glass Animals, topped the Hot 100 in 2022 for five weeks. It became the best-charting song of the year.
?ÿ
How many know who the Glass Animals are or who have heard their music?
?ÿ
I know 1975:
"Love Will Keep Us Together" | Captain & Tennille |
Clearly Nat King Cole was the greatest voice ever to sing songs. I??m not sure if he??s on that list, if not it??s not worth the paper it??s printed on.
Dang!!
No Nat King Cole, no Bill Medley, no Harry Nilsson, no Bobby Darin?

This list only confirms that I really don't give a RIP what Rolling Stone thinks. Not that I was wondering.
I didn't see Tiny Tim; shouldn't he be on the list?
