Enjoy this with Wilt, Bob Hope and Jayne Mansfield, whose daughter we can watch on Law and Order--SVU.

I lost all interest in them riding with my cousin, the heater was not working,

If the engine ran, the heater was working. It relied on some 2" diameter paper-based tubing that ran forward from the engine to a vent on the floor beside the driver's left foot. That paper tubing would get wet, fall apart, and need replacing from time to time. When working it would melt the glue holding your sneakers together.?ÿ

I had two Beetles, a '61 and a '72. I sold the '72 to pay the tuition on my last year at BCIT.?ÿ

I had a friend who owned one that was so airtight you had to crack a widow to close the door. If you didn't, the door would just bounce open and the compression would hurt your eardrums...

That's why the heater would never work, it couldn't move the air ????

Never truly owned one but one that had an oak fall on it was sitting at the farm so we took a torch to the top cab part and with some old role bars out of some old trucks we added them and a boat seat on top with a seat belt. Cut the fenders out the back and through some old coop mutters and we had the best dune buggy / dove hunting vehicle ever. Itƒ??s a wonder we didnƒ??t kill our fool selves. We had some old drag racing bucket seats for driver and passenger no rear seat thats were the buckets went for doves or cold brews. But we had fun. The frame was bent so 45 mph was about all you could go and hold it on a gravel road. But in a fresh plowed cotton field after a rain you would be covered in mud.?ÿ

A few years ago we toured the Autostadt (VW's museum) in Wolfsburg. The last original style Beetle produced was in 2003.?ÿ

Had a 63 with sun roof. The previous owner installed a fan in the heater duct which improved the heater/defroster immensely. The best upgrade I did to that car was switching from bias ply tires to radials. The improvement to handling and ride was phenomenal.
