Hello all. I have been reading the posts on this site for a few months. I finally decided to get registered so I can join in the fun. I am located in SW PA. I took over my grandfather's surveying business 6 years ago. He had been surveying since 1951. So I have learned alot of the old as well as the new techniques. I enjoy hearing how other surveyors "do it" as I pretty much only know his ways and methods. I am registered in WV, and hopefully taking the PA state test this fall. I am also a PE in PA. Well, that's about everything about me and I look forward to interacting with other surveyors around the country since I am a complete surveying and engineering geek.
Welcome, fellow Colonial.
Welcome from a displaced colonial.
Welcome aboard Neil!
That is funny you say that. Like I said, I was rather sheltered to my grandfather's way of life since I have been working for him since I was old enough to hold a pole upright and swing a machete. I never even heard of the PLSS until I took a practice test for my Fundamentals Exam about 2 weeks prior to the test. Guess what I spent the next 2 weeks trying to learn!! It didn't really take that long to learn the basics, but other than the exam, I have zero exposure.
Hi Neil!
Thank goodness for another Colonial Surveyor! How far are you Pittsburgh? My wife has family in Wilkes-Barre and down in Wyomissing so we are down PA a few times a year.
Beautiful state....
it must be fun running the family business after so many year in existence!!
I am located about 40 miles south of Pittsburgh and about 10 miles north of the Mason-Dixon Line.
And yes it is great continuing in his footsteps. He had worked for others prior to starting his business. He didn't really do it full time until 1972, but that is still longer than I have been around.
Welcome Mr. Shultz

That's nice country out there.
I interviewed with your competition back when I was laid of by a big engineering firm in DC back in 2008.
Welcome, Neil.
Looks like you're only 20 miles or so from one of my favorite places to visit, Falling Water
That is about right. I have been there a few times. It is a pretty cool place. A few years back I submitted a proposal to survey another of his works -- the Hagan House. It was a very small area but every tree needed to be located and identified on the map as "To Remain" or "To Remove" with the size and type. Of course the area they wanted surveyed was in the middle of the woods. Needless to say, I didn't get the job so I am not sure how it turned out.
Damn Engineers.
🙂
Just messing with ya!
Welcome Neil,
I hope you pick up on some of the jargon around here...like PLSS, 1/4 of a 1/4 northeast 1/4, Kents photos depicting nothing but a gps set-up and a cow (maybe), etc...:-P
:good:   WELCOME, NEIL!!! :good:
Glad to see you post!!! 🙂
IF the guys harass you, let me know. I'll crack out my whip. 😉

Hello! Four words of advice for you Neil
Don't mess with Angel.
The last thing any of us need is a upset woman who knows how to use a whip. 😉
