I believe we tied our hottest summer on record yesterday (cumulative 90+ degree days).?ÿ Our weather station at the house topped out at 98 at around 5:00 pm.?ÿ This morning it's 35 and raining with snow in the cast for the afternoon and evening.?ÿ Colorado sucks, tell your friends!?ÿ
I've got a sister in Ft. Collins.?ÿ I haven't talked with her yet today, but yesterday it was in the 90s.?ÿ
I don't think that's the case this morning.
Mid 80s yesterday, wind howled all night (and still is). Mid 20s early this morning, snow blowing all over the place, and it's looking down right 'potty mouth' out there. Good day to stay inside.
???
When does the wind not howl up there??ÿ Can you stand up straight indoors or are you always trying to lean into the wind??ÿ?ÿ
107 on my jeep's temp gage on Saturday, snow Monday night.?ÿ
115?ø on the weekend, dropped to mid-90s on Monday. So far 75?ø today. Not as dramatic as Colorado, but I'll take it! I'm sure the El Dorado firefighters (about 8-15 miles east) appreciate it too.?ÿ
Started by nothing so mundane as a lightning strike or a campfire. No! A colored smoke-producing pyrotechnic set off in a park at the base of the foothills for a gender reveal party! Kudos to the participants for calling 911 immediately, remaining until crews showed up, and who are cooperating with authorities.?ÿ
109 Sunday
105 Monday.
95 today.
already down to 90 on its way to a low of 60.
smokey as heck.
new fire near the SMF airport.
I'm north of Cameron in Lakewood.?ÿ On Saturday, the official high temperature for "Denver" (actually the weather station at Denver International Airport) was 101?ø. a record for the day. In fact the latest date for Denver that the high temp. was above 100?ø.
Now it is 33?ø in Lakewood with the snow finally sticking to the grass.?ÿ By morning we should have 4" to 6" of snow.?ÿ I have a survey near Alma, CO to do at 11,600 ft., but fortunately it is an underground survey. Should prove interesting as I need to establish control up two manways (i.e. I need to transfer bearings vertically from the main drift to the working face of a stope). The survey control is for a terrestrial LIDAR survey of all the underground workings so they can create a 3D model of the mine.
The mine contains pretty red crystals. Here is a photo of a vug found in June filled with pretty red, rhombohedrons of rhodochrosite. The mine owner will be showing some of the mineral specimens at the Denver Gem and Mineral Show next week.
For more on the Denver show and some fabulous photos of rhodochrosite specimens that will be unveiled at the show here is a link to the Collector's Edge web page.?ÿ The first two photos show an absolutely fabulous plate of rhodochrosite, quartz, fluorite, pyrite and tetrahedrite. I can't wait to see where it was found.
I miss how much Colorado sucks.....I sold Jan 17th and moved out for a while after 32.6 years.?ÿ Sometimes when opportunity knocks you follow, and I plan on being back.....
@jitterboogie I can't imagine why anyone would leave Colorado, well, I guess if you liked the beach then you'd be SOL.
I live 7 miles from the edge of Williams fork fire CO and have been loaded and prepared to evacuate since Aug 11. I did a side job in co springs yesterday in 99 degree. I am staying in Denver tonight. The weather map says I'm in drought zone with fires, today there will be 15" snow, 15 degrees, it's snowing in Denver now 35 degrees, and both berthoud pass and I 70 closed.
