Got my hammer elbow wrapped in a compression brace from what the doc says is 'tennis elbow'. I've never played tennis in my life. The shoulder is bunged up from lord knows what. The knuckles on my other hand are swollen and painful. I'm not even 50 yet and feel like I'm falling apart. I've been using 'Blue Emu' and this stuff called 'Traumameel' made with Arnica and they help somewhat. Thirty years of beating the crap out of my body is catching up with me. Got another thirty or so to go (I hope). Anybody got any miracle cures for, ughhh ... (hate to even use the word),
... arthritis?
Doc says, 'if it hurts when you do that, quit doing that.' Thanks Doc, I'll just start pounding stakes with my forehead.
I use to think the post trauma cocktails helped, but I'm convinced they did just the opposite. o.O

I still swear by the post-trauma cocktails. Although, the benefit appears to be only temporary and things are usually even worse in the morning. o.O

Never said anything 'bout giving up cocktails. Temporary relief beats none at all.

A good boilermaker always takes away the pain...
tall glass
2 shots your favorite whiskey
pour in your favorite cold beer
drink until satisfied....

Sounds like your joints are swollen.
BC powder Arthritis Formula
An herbal diuretic PowerThin PhaseII
Those are my goto and a regular dose of Glacosumine and/or Benedril depending upon the location
Nearly 3rys ago had one cocktail injection in my back and am about ready for number two.
Currently on SANDOZ MethylPREDIsolone 6 day regime

Remember, all things in moderation...

I've had lateral epichondylitis (tennis elbow) and/or medial epichondylitis (golfer's elbow) at various times in each elbow. Right now i have a mild case in my right elbow from spending a little too much time caring a Triumph-LS around.

I used to do pull-ups and chin-ups as part of my regular exercise routine, but i can't do that anymore because of the elbow thing.

I reckon it's all downhill from here...

I can't use a 3lb. shop hammer to drive anything bigger than a 40d nail nowadays. All those years of squatting and slamming hubs and pins is really traumatic to your joints and muscles. I didn't know any better, and I'm paying for it now. Don't know what to tell you except join the rest of us with our aches and pains....

This year has been the pits
1. Started having cluster headaches otherwise known as "suicide headaches". Not good.
2. Had a mild ear infection - turned out it damaged the nerve in the ear.
3. Went to the hospital with 105 degree temp. They could not find out why.
4. A week later I was doing routine stuff around the house, the next morning I could not use my right leg. (pinched nerve) and was in a wheelchair for 3 months.
5. Bursitis in the hip that causes a major limp.
6. Skin Cancer removal. I had this spot on my left arm that never went away. It was what I thought of a small rash. Finally saw a doctor. Skin Cancer.
So do not overlook those things that you think are just spots because you are getting old. GIC (get it checked).

and this is only month 7, can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!:excruciating:

"pounding stakes"

That's the problem with solo operations - you don't have a young trainee to abuse their body and you have to abuse your own.

Been limping from an inflamed big toe for about 4 months now. Just tried an ice bath last night. It definitely took some of the pain out. Used anti-inflams for years. Those will mess up your stomach.

Looking for a good back remedy (that doesn't involve surgery)?

Pounding hubs is hard work, so work smarter: unless the ground is real soft (and hubs go in easy then anyway) use a 60 penny nail and some of those nylon bristles that slip over the nail. They go in rather easily, don't move around, and the contractors seem to like them because the bristles make them easy to find with mud, dust or light snow. A dozen in the pouch on your belt is a lot easier to carry than a dozen hubs. Try it!

Had the same thing happen to me a couple of months ago. Thought it was the end. Well I think that quite often now days. I turned 63 last Sunday. I get up every morning a go forward. Oh yea! Tennis elbow! Mine was a bad as what you're talking about. Couldn't raise my hand above my waist. I did some research and found this,

helped a lot fast.

I also found massaging the sore tendons got the inflammation out faster. Pressure point massage the sore spot. I'm good to go again.

I would get a big pot and put some hot water and Epsom salt in there. I would dissolve as much as the water will hold. Re-heat the mixture periodically on the stove. Soak ur foot in that for an hour or so each night.

Some people swear by Johnson's Foot Soap for sore feet. You might try soaking in that.

Going to give this a try. Not looking forward to going through the rest of the season like this. Last bout went on the entire summer and could hardly hold a fork to my mouth much less swing a machete or 4 lb. hammer. Getting better at using my left arm to give my right a break. Thanks

Right now I'm dealing with either gout, some other form of arthritis, carpal tunnel, or a truly evil hybrid of all of the above in my right wrist and hand. Amazing the things you can learn to do lefthanded when your right hand doesn't work.

Pain is one thing, but if you have numbness see the doc. Nerve damage in arms and hands becomes permanent VERY quickly. When it does heal it is a slow process.
Get well, Tom

I have paresthesia on the inside of my left (dominant) arm from the elbow, through the wrist to the center of the palm. Doc says most likely cause was repeated trauma (hammering). As long as it's numb it doesn't bother me, but I can get cut on briars and not know it until I see blood. If I use a hammer (a lot) it can turn into some pretty unbearable radiating pain, so I usually avoid that. Nerve damage due to surveying...:-(

Tiger Balm works for my shoulder, elbow & knees. Worth a try. Good luck!
